It was an honor to attend the Announcement Program for the creation of the 200+ Men Foundation, Inc.’s William Harvey Goines Scholarship Fund. After serving our nation as the first Black Navy SEAL, Bill has worked tirelessly as a member of 200+ Men to enrich our community
I voted to prevent a costly Musk-Trump-MAGA shutdown that would have damaged our economy and furloughed thousands of workers in Hampton Roads right before the holidays. My full statement below.

All of this confusion costs the taxpayers money.
Federal agencies now have to divert resources to prepare for a Musk-Trump-MAGA shutdown instead of the work they need to be doing for the American people.
Instead of the chaos caused by Elon Musk, Donald Trump and Speaker Johnson, we should pass the original bipartisan agreement for the good of the American people.
My full statement below.

House Republicans have been ordered to shut down the government.
And hurt the working class Americans they claim to support.
You break the bipartisan agreement, you own the consequences that follow.
I have always fought to advance policies that protect workers' rights, ensure access to high-quality education, and expand health care for all Americans. Next Congress, my fight will be the same. Looking forward to continuing my service as Ranking Member of @edworkforcedems.bsky.social.
Americans need a workforce development system that works for them and their families.
That's why I fought for the bipartisan, bicameral A Stronger Workforce for America Act to be included in the funding deal. Americans need this passed ASAP.

As the Dean of the Virginia Congressional Delegation, I was honored to present parting gifts to Representatives Bob Good, Abigail Spanberger and Jennifer Wexton. We are grateful for their service to the Commonwealth of Virginia and we will miss having them here in Congress.
Nikki Giovanni was a pioneering poet and a voice for equality, justice and civil rights. I have been following her work since I was a student in the Boston area where she frequently performed. My thoughts are with her family and all those touched by her life's work.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of my former colleague, John Spratt. We served together on the Budget Committee where I saw firsthand how John was a person of integrity who focused on solving problems & serving his constituents. I send my condolences to his family. apnews.com/article/form...
I enjoyed the Peninsula Youth Orchestra program during the @SoundscapesHR Holiday Concert and catching up with Co-Founder Reynaldo Ramirez
My staff and I had a great meeting today with Chesapeake Mayor Rick West, City Manager Chris Price and Naval officials regarding the $297M South Central Water and Sewer Transmission project
Not even "concepts of a plan" on this one.

Mark your calendars for October 1, 2025! Today, President Biden signed the FAFSA Deadline Act into law, ensuring the FAFSA form will be released on this date every year. This gives students more time to access the financial aid they need to make college more affordable! tinyurl.com/5h83bwmx
Proud to have served with Rep. Tony Cárdenas. He has been a tireless advocate for Californians. We worked together for a long time, even before he was in Congress, on juvenile justice reform.
I will miss having him in the People’s House.
As we move forward, it is incumbent on Congressional Republicans and the incoming Trump Administration to ensure future NDAAs prioritize national security and servicemembers, not culture wars.
However, I am disappointed that Speaker Mike Johnson and extreme MAGA Republicans included a reprehensible provision that would prohibit medical intervention for military dependents under the age of 18 who are diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
Many culture war provisions included in the original House-passed version of this year’s NDAA were ultimately rejected such as provisions attacking reproductive health care, demeaning LGBTQ servicemembers and undermining efforts to have a diverse fighting force.
The FY25 NDAA includes pay raises for servicemembers along with provisions focused on health care, housing, childcare, military spousal support, and civilian workforce benefits. It also provides support for shipbuilding and includes investments strengthen research at HBCUs.
Waterways in Hampton Roads support economic opportunities for Virginia. As we grapple w/ sea level rise & more frequent flooding, we must find innovative ways to protect our communities. Passing the Water Resources Development Act today supports that work by investing in water infrastructure.
