I’m laser-focused on protecting these programs so folks don’t have to struggle to put food on their table.
March is National Nutrition Month, a time to double down on efforts to ensure all of our neighbors have access to healthy, fresh foods. Crucial programs such as SNAP and WIC are lifelines for families, aging adults, individuals with disabilities, and more.
Looking forward to another zoo-pendous season at the John Ball Zoo! 🦁

Our nation’s history cannot be erased, and it’s our duty to learn from these moments and keep them in our hearts and minds as we push toward a more just future for all.
I was honored to join The Faith & Politics Institute earlier this month on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday to honor the sacrifices made by Civil Rights Movement leaders, preachers, journalists, activists, and supporters.
On this day in 1965, the Civil Rights March from Selma to Montgomery began, with around 3,200 brave marchers beginning the journey. Walking 12 miles a day and sleeping outside at night, their determination and bravery were key in shifting our nation’s history for the better. 🧵
The Van Andel Institute is a point of pride for West Michigan, and I was proud to advocate for this funding to support their lifesaving, innovative efforts.
I’m proud to announce $767,324 in a federal grant I helped secure for the Van Andes Institute—a leader in cutting-edge biomedical research. At a time when crucial medical research funding is being called into question, I’m proud to reaffirm my support for institutions on the frontlines of this work.
As the daughter of an educator, I'm troubled by President Trump's move to dismantle our federal Education Department at the expense of American students.
This is an attack on more than 1.4 million K-12 students in Michigan, and countless more throughout the country. Our kids deserve better.
Happy First Day of Spring, West Michigan! 🌷
I can’t wait for warmer weather and all the goodness that comes with it. Check out some of the exciting Spring events coming up across MI, including the Bluebird Festival in Grand Rapids!

At Access Health in Muskegon, the goal is pretty straightforward: they expand ACCESS to high-quality, affordable HEALTH care. I’d say that’s pretty great!❤️🩹
It was lovely to meet with leaders from Access Health in the district, who are determined to deliver quality care to our neighbors in Muskegon.
This bill would boost our economy and give a fair shot to entrepreneurs ready to work hard to keep our nation on the cutting edge. Read more here.

Our small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and they deserve our support. I’m working w/ Rep. Meuser to pass a bill that would increase funding and resources for small businesses, especially:
🚜Rural or low-income area businesses
🏭Businesses developing critical technology or manufacturing
If you or someone you know is concerned about losing Medicaid benefits, let us know at repscholten.us/MedicaidStory.
Medicaid is a lifeline for over 150,000 West Michiganders — it must be protected.
Hearing directly from you helps me better serve you and ensure unelected billionaires can't treat your Medicaid benefits like a gambling chip. 🧵
Last week, I met with leaders from Hackley Community Care. At Hackley, they’re doing incredible work to ensure West Michiganders in Muskegon County have access to high-quality health care. I’m working hard to ensure our local health centers have what they need to thrive.
To everyone celebrating in West Michigan, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀
Be safe and have fun! 🌈
I led a letter with Rep. Dingell and other Great Lakes colleagues to ensure our federal workers are supported and have what they need to carry out essential services for our waterways.
Proper maintenance of our Great Lakes is essential to our economy and environment, which includes controlling invasive species like the sea lamprey. The Trump Admin’s widespread firing of USFWS employees tasked with lamprey control efforts is highly concerning to communities along the Great Lakes.🧵
