Secretary Hegseth attacked reporters for covering the deaths of six American service members — because it "made the president look bad."    Today I asked him directly to take it back. He refused.   Secretary Hegseth is a disgrace. He must resign.
Today, SCOTUS dealt a devastating blow to one of America's most hard-won civil rights achievements. By rendering Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act effectively unenforceable, the court has invited states to systematically dilute minority voting power with impunity.
Secretary Hegseth sent American service members into a war of choice with Iran without a clear plan.    Now, with lives lost and hundreds wounded, there’s still no end in sight.    I will be questioning him today on these failures and demanding answers for the American people.
On #SchoolBusDriverAppreciationDay, we celebrate the people who keep our students safe before the school day even begins and long after it ends. 🚌    Thank you for the commitment you bring to our communities every day!
As a 25-year Army veteran, I am appalled by the news that a U.S. service member bet on the capture of Nicolás Maduro using classified information.   If found guilty, he must be held fully accountable for his actions — which placed both the mission and the lives of his fellow soldiers at risk.
Congratulations to Curry Roberts, my “Constituent of the Week,” on his retirement after years of dedicated service as president of the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance at the University of Mary Washington.  I’m grateful for his contributions to our community, and I wish him well in retirement!
This weekend, I attended the Saving the Lives of Those Who Wear Camouflage Mobile App kickoff at VFW Post 1503 in Dale City.  Developed by PhD student Kenitha Woodhouse, the app is designed to expand mental health awareness and build self-efficacy among service members and their support networks.
My team attended the Prince William County Schools Outstanding Educators Ceremony, where several of our constituents were recognized for their impact in the classroom.  Congratulations to Sylvia Chan, Hirk Williams III, Carolyn Matthews, and Stephanie Bretzke on receiving this recognition!
In military operations, a few hours can mean the difference between mission success and catastrophe.  When someone with insider knowledge bets on military operations before they occur, they're putting the entire mission — and our U.S. service members — at risk.
Political violence undermines the very foundation of our democracy and must be unequivocally condemned. Thank you to the Secret Service, the Capitol Police, and all law enforcement for their swift response. I am relieved that the president and all attendees are safe.
I am appalled to hear that shots were fired at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner tonight. This event reflects our shared commitment to a free press, open dialogue, and the ability to speak and question those in power without fear. Political violence runs counter to all of those values.
The families of these American heroes deserve answers.  If there were failures in force protection or a gap between conditions on the ground and what Secretary Hegseth shared publicly, we have a responsibility to uncover the truth. (2/2)
Since six American service members were killed in Kuwait, serious questions have emerged about the circumstances that led to this tragedy.  That’s why I joined Rep. Pat Ryan and fellow veterans in Congress to demand an immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to this tragedy. (1/2)
Today, come say hi to Nathan from my team at Senator Mark Warner’s Service academy Day in Fredericksburg.    If you’re interested in applying to one of our nation’s service academies, stop by to get guidance on taking the next step toward serving our country.
