18 American service members are dead and hundreds more have been injured. Iran’s regime remains entrenched, America’s diplomatic leverage has been diminished, and Americans are facing higher costs from the gas station to the grocery store.
Republicans added voter suppression provisions from the SAVE America Act to their bill on congressional stock trading. This cynical move is exactly why so many people are fed up with Washington. Read my full statement.
Rep. Bera Calls for Clean Vote on Comprehensive Congressional Stock Trading Ban

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement after House Republicans added restrictive voting provisions to a bill on congressional stock trading:

“I strongly support a stock trading ban. I have cosponsored two comprehensive bipartisan bills and signed two discharge petitions this Congress to ban Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from trading or owning individual stocks.

“Republicans squandered what could have been a strong bipartisan vote by attaching voter suppression provisions from the SAVE America Act to this bill. These burdensome restrictions would make it harder for eligible Americans to vote and would disproportionately impact seniors, people with disabilities, rural voters, low-income Americans, and working families.

“This cynical move is exactly why so many people are fed up with Washington. I remain committed to passing bipartisan legislation through a clean, up-or-down vote to enact this ban and restore confidence in our government.”
It is about singling out California because our state has consistently stood up to this President and his attacks on our values. The Administration must immediately reverse course and restore this funding.
Fraud must be investigated and bad actors must be held accountable in red states and blue states alike. But this selective, vindictive, and sweeping action is not a serious effort to combat fraud.
Janine and I are deeply saddened by the loss of two American service members in Jordan. Our thoughts are with the loved ones of those killed and the service member who remains missing. We continue to pray for the safety of all our troops.
At this moment in time with Donald Trump in the White House, we must follow John’s example and do just that. We must continue fighting to protect our democracy and defend the rights of all Americans.
That photo reminds me every day of the courage it took to move our country forward and why we must never take the right to vote for granted. As we mark six years since his passing, John’s call to make “good trouble” remains as urgent as ever.
One of the greatest privileges I’ve had in Congress was serving alongside Congressman John Lewis. I keep a photo in my office from the day my wife Janine and I walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with John in 2019. It was a moment neither of us will ever forget.
President Trump’s behavior is becoming more and more erratic. I expect tonight’s speech to be another desperate attempt to relitigate the election he lost in 2020 and undermine confidence in our elections ahead of November. Don’t fall for his lies.
I voted present on today’s amendment put forward by Representative Thomas Massie to eliminate all funding for Israel in the State Department and National Security appropriations bill. Read my full statement:
The American people want an end to Donald Trump’s illegal, costly, and reckless war with Iran. It is a grave mistake to abandon diplomacy for open-ended chaos and conflict in the Middle East.
The U.S. and Iran trade new attacks overnight, intensifying an exchange that has threatened the collapse of their agreement to end the war.
I also look forward to hosting my office’s 11th annual Brain Health Forum with the Alzheimer’s Association later this year to help our community learn more about the latest Alzheimer’s research and the resources available to caregivers and those living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias.
I’m proud to support the bipartisan Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act, which would help expand access to early detection tools and give individuals and families more time to seek treatment, plan ahead, and access support.
It was great welcoming advocates from the Alzheimer's Association to my Sacramento and Washington, D.C. offices! The Alzheimer’s Association is doing important work to raise awareness, support research, and advance solutions for families affected by Alzheimer’s.
As we celebrate our independence, let's also reflect on the values that have guided our nation for 250 years: freedom, opportunity, service, and the shared responsibility we have to build a more perfect union for our children and grandchildren.
I want to wish you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July. This is a time to reflect on what unites us as Americans. Our nation’s strength has always come from the diversity of our experiences, our stories, and our shared contributions to the American experiment.
Instead of celebrating a bill that ripped away healthcare and food assistance, we should work together to lower costs, expand access to healthcare, feed our kids, and build more housing. Listen to your constituents. Let’s do better.
