This is welcome news to all who care about upholding the integrity of the House of Representatives.
Resigning from Congress should not—and historically does not—allow you to avoid accountability. I'm glad to see this standard applied to Matt Gaetz.

Earlier this year, I introduced the Reinforcing the Grid Against Extreme Weather Act of 2024. This legislation would bolster electric power grid reliability against increasing and intensifying extreme weather events.

Last week, I was honored to join the announcement of two grant awards to improve rail safety and efficiency at the Forest Hill Railyard in Chicago. These grant awards reinforce the region’s role as a national transportation hub.
Navigating federal agencies can be frustrating and confusing.

50 years ago, the Safe Drinking Water Act was enacted to protect our country’s drinking water supply.
The investments we’ve made from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continue to safeguard the right to safe drinking water.
Today, we honor the second anniversary of the Respect for Marriage Act being signed into law.
This law enshrined justice, dignity and respect for all Americans regardless of who you love.
Far too often, we hear stories of victims of abuse who feel trapped in their situation due to limited or no insight into their household finances. Rep. Beatty and I worked together to introduce the Financial Empowerment and Protection Act to help victims regain their financial independence.
Earlier this year, I partnered with Rep. Chavez-DeRemer to introduce the bipartisan Mental Health in Aviation Act. This legislation would ensure pilots and air traffic controllers have access to help should they need it.
As far back as 1987, the Ethics Committee has released reports on Members of Congress who resigned to avoid accountability.
Last week, House Republicans voted to upend this precedent, with Speaker Johnson declaring the matter "moot".
The integrity of the House is not moot.

Consumers should benefit from purchasing vehicles that can go the extra mile. I teamed up with Rep. Matsui to incentivize the purchase of new vehicles with better-than-average energy performance.

NEWS: The ATF is critical to protecting Americans from the scourge of gun violence and the influx of unsafe guns into our communities.
That's why I am leading an effort with Representatives Madeleine Dean and Lucy McBath to increase funding for the ATF next year.

Tonight the House of Representatives voted to sweep credible allegations of sexual misconduct under the rug.
I retain options to pursue the release of the Gaetz Report.

I’ll request a recorded vote on this motion.
If their motion passes, Republican Leadership has succeeded in sweeping credible allegations of sexual misconduct under the rug.
If the motion fails, we’ll move into debate on the resolution. I’ll share an update then. /fin
Don’t let them fool you. A resolution moved to be “brought up later” or “sent to committee for further work” won’t actually be brought back up by Republican Leadership.
This is purely a procedural tool to try and bury the issue. 5/
Once I raise my resolution, Republican Leadership is expected to take some sort of procedural action – likely either a motion to table or a motion to refer – which is a tool used to essentially kill the resolution. 4/
If they do not, I’ll raise my resolution to force the release of the Gaetz Report on the House Floor during the 4:45 PM ET vote series. 3/
First and foremost, the House Ethics Committee is expected to meet shortly and could release the report themselves.
If they care about the integrity of the House of Representatives, this is what they will do. 2/
House procedure can be wonky, so let’s discuss what might happen TODAY on my resolution to release the Gaetz Report.
A short thread 🧵 1/
Everyone deserves the right to safely access health care. That’s why I introduced the FACES Act – to ensure patients, providers, and health care staff are able to seek and provide reproductive health care. casten.house.gov/media/press-...
