Marc Fogel has now arrived safely on American soil after over 3 years of unjust imprisonment in Russia. "Bring Marc Home" has been written on my office's whiteboard since shortly after I was sworn-in early 2023. It's been a focus for my entire team since. ✅ Welcome home, Marc!
"It was NIH funded-research that discovered the genetic mutation. We cannot afford to waste any time. People WILL die because of the NIH funding stoppage. My future and my kids' future might depend on discoveries yet to be made. It's not about politics or political party, it's CANCER." (4/4)
"I have a genetic mutation that causes pancreatic cancer. My mom died when she was in her 50s from pancreatic cancer. I am in my 40s and I have been enrolled in an early detection program at UPMC funded by the NIH. This cancer is terrible and we need every gain we can make through research." (3/4)
A judge has blocked for now the Administration's freeze on medical research funding, but the threat isn't gone. I've heard from lots of constituents who want to protect NIH funding. Here's one story... (2/4)
Cutting NIH grants for clinical trials and medical research will hurt Western PA's economy—NIH funding directly creates 21,000 jobs across PA—and it could stop the research we need to develop treatments and cures for diseases like cancer. (1/4)
After the Pres. announced a federal hiring freeze, I asked VA Pittsburgh about any impacts. They shared they'd be requesting exemptions for positions impacted by the freeze. I stand ready to help the VA get the staff they need so my fellow Western PA vets receive the great care they've earned.
I'm worried that President Trump’s federal hiring freeze could hurt veteran care and services here at the VA Pittsburgh. So I'm asking the VA for answers and am ready to fight hard to protect my fellow veterans and our VA.
The Trump Admin is trying to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the consumer watchdogs that have gone after rip-off junk fees and put $21 billion back into Americans' pockets. I guess grifters, crooks, and robber barons want the cops on the block defunded. Weak and pathetic.
I joined @markey.senate.gov in introducing the All Aboard Act to invest in high-speed rail, expand passenger rail service, and grow the rail workforce across America. We need to invest in 21st century infrastructure, and Western PA's gotta be part of that network.  www.axios.com/local/pittsb...
Today, Donald Trump went soft on Communist China, reversing his own trade action that would have closed the "de minimis" loophole. They exploit this loophole to evade tariffs and flood our neighborhoods with fentanyl. Enough already: stand up for American workers and no more weak trade deals!
There's been a lot of robber baron ass kissing (and plotting more fiscally reckless giveaways to them that we’ll all pay for) and defending pardons of cop-beaters—but that's not what Western Pennsylvanians want. (2/2)
My standard for sending Americans to fight is a simple one: would I be willing to look every constituent in the eye and say they (or their kid or grandkid) should be willing to die for the cause? The answer here is NO. (2/2
I will not be voting to send Americans to occupy Gaza and kick Gazans out of their homes. Has Donald Trump learned nothing from decades of sending Americans to endless wars in the Middle East? (1/2)
There’s a lot going on right now in Washington, including some really big changes under the new administration. I want to hear your thoughts on your priorities as I fight for all of us in Western PA. Join me for a Telephone Town Hall tomorrow, Feb 6th at 6pm.
