The I-5 Bridge project is long overdue – and not replacing it isn't an option. We need to ensure awarded funds go out quickly through our federal agencies to get this project done – and also fully fund bridge investment programs to keep folks safe and our economies moving.
When I spoke with log truck drivers, I heard that 18- to 20-year-old drivers can't cross state lines. When we're right on the OR border, it makes it harder for them to get needed experience – at a time when we have an aging workforce. I urged the T&I Cmte. to make this possible for young drivers.
When our servicemembers can repair their own equipment, it's not only good for our military readiness, but it also saves our tax dollars. I urged the House Armed Services Committee to include my military right to repair bill in the NDAA, and I was encouraged to hear the Chairman's support.
Car headlights have gotten absurdly bright – roughly doubling in recent years – and it's dangerous for others on the road. I encouraged the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to look into setting better maximum brightness standards in their upcoming infrastructure bill.
Southwest Washington has a rich timber history, and our rural economies rely on strong logging, trucking, and milling operations. I appreciate Cascade Hardwood showing me around their Chehalis alder sawmill and discussing how we can keep mills running strong.
As law enforcement face increased pressures from the fentanyl crisis, it's more difficult to recruit and retain officers. We need to ensure they have the childcare, mental health support, and resources needed to stay safe at work and enjoy time with their families.
If you've spent any time online, you've seen the memes about McDonald's ice cream machines always being broken. Glad to hear the FTC Chairman is aware of the importance of protecting our right to fix what we own – whether it's tractors, vehicles, electronics ... or ice cream machines.
I had the opportunity to visit the Mt. St. Helens Institute last Congress to see how they’re educating folks about one of our state’s greatest natural beauties. On the 45th anniversary of the eruption, let’s recognize their work amid shortsighted federal funding cuts.
We're lucky to have beautiful mountains and forests that welcome visitors from around the world, but not everyone comes prepared. Skamania Search & Rescue works tirelessly across difficult terrain to ensure folks can return home safely – and we're incredibly grateful for their work.
Correction officers are core to our justice system, yet they receive little recognition for the difficult work they do. By strengthening mental health resources for officers and ensuring detainees access addiction treatment, we can help them do their jobs more safely and effectively.
Thank you to all of the law enforcement officers serving communities across #WA03. This #NationalPoliceWeek, I was grateful to have had the opportunity to meet many of you and hear how I can best support your efforts. Having high-quality officers & fully staffed depts. is more important than ever.
It's important we honor the service and patriotism of our brave law enforcement officers – as well as remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to Jeff and Marco from the WA State FOP for having me at the #NationalPoliceWeek Honor Guard and Pipe Band Tribute.
It's imperative the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of our gov't remain co-equal, as prescribed in our Constitution. It’s critical we maintain control of our federal dollars and where they're being spent – while also working on a positive agenda that reflects our communities' values.
It was cool to see how Discovery High School integrates practical, hands-on learning with everything students are working on. Pairing career and technical education with strong academics is how we can ensure our kids can chart their own paths and do what they love most.
