To his credit Mike Johnson learned from the 15 round debacle of 2 years ago. Instead of trying to jam his conference with a quick second round he held the vote open while some backroom arm twisting & hand wringing took place. The result: 2 changed vote, enough to win the gavel.
With another Republican vote against Mike Johnson, Round 2 of the Speaker’s vote appears inevitable. No matter how many roll calls it takes Democrats will stand united as Republicans engage in a spectacle of disunity.
How unique it is to be on the House floor as drama sets up during the vote for Speaker? With 4 Republicans so far not voting and with Massie’s NO vote, Mike Johnson doesn’t have the votes to win at this point. It’s time for some popcorn.
This was a classic MAGA bait & switch. with President-Elect Musk ordering Republicans to walk away from & replace a bipartisan-bicameral agreement. Now, they bring forward a procrastinated & partisan version that hurts Americans. We reject the illegitimate oligarchy, & I vote NO.
I'm fighting for the approximately 19k people, including more than 5,400 infants and 10k+ children, in #GA04 who would lose access to Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) benefits because of the Musk-Trump shutdown.
Wow! Rather than serving the people who elected them by keeping the government open through the holidays, MAGA Musk Republicans have chosen to follow President-Elect Musk’s order to SHUT IT DOWN! Folks, American Democracy is in TROUBLE.
The precipitous drop in confidence in America’s justice system is in large part driven by the arrogance, corruption & extreme partisanship displayed by SCOTUS Justices, which Republicans have packed with right wing ideologues. We need #CourtReformNow. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/17/u...
