I had a wonderful time last week at the Edgebrook Community Association Mix and Mingle. It was great to catch up with our neighbors and learn more about the work they are doing in our community.
Happy National Nurses Week! Our nurses provide skilled and compassionate care to people of all ages across the country. Make sure to thank a nurse this week🩺
Last week I had the honor of accepting the Defender of Freedom Award from the Ukrainian National Museum. I am thankful for all the amazing work they are doing to fight for justice!
I'm excited to announce that my office will be participating in this year's #CongressionalAppChallenge📱 All middle & high school students in IL-05 are eligible to apply with an app they created, adhering to challenge guidelines. To learn more, go to my website or congressionalappchallenge.us.
I just signed a discharge petition to force an up-or-down vote on the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act. This petition calls on Republican leadership to own their efforts to cut assistance for working families' basic needs. All we need are four Republicans to join us to stop these cuts.
A rare bright spot during the first Trump term, WPS decreased violence against women and increased women’s participation in global conflict resolution. It's clear Trump 2.0 has zero respect for our women in uniform. (2/2)
I enjoyed catching up with the eighth graders of St. Josaphat about their recent trip to Washington. They had excellent and thoughtful questions about what Congress is really like!
Initial reports were wrong — Trump is NOT firing Mike Waltz. Instead, he's nominating him for UN Ambassador. This is a huge mistake. Waltz was part of an alarming national security breach and he needs to take accountability, not a promotion. We need real consequences, not rewards.
Trump is finally taking steps to hold his team accountable for their dangerous use of Signal. But firing Mike Waltz isn't good enough. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared classified information about an ongoing military operation not once but TWICE. He must resign or be fired immediately.

Following an order from a federal judge, Mohsen Mahdawi—a Palestinian green card holder kidnapped by the Trump administration for expressing his opinion—has been freed from DHS custody. To everyone who made calls and spoke up on Mohsen’s behalf, thank you. Let’s keep up the pressure.
Mohsen Mahdawi was kidnapped by the Trump administration for exercising his First Amendment rights. ‘Disappearing’ people is a tactic by dictators—it has no place in our democracy.
