President Trump is using an 18th century wartime law to deport immigrants with no oversight. This same law was used to imprison my family and many other Japanese Americans during WWII.
It's on us to protect due process & defend the values of our nation. This is un-American, illegal, and must stop.
Standing strong with House and Senate Democrats today against 100 days of this administration's chaos and cruelty. We’re not backing down until America is the place we know it can be—where everyone in our communities are safe, healthy & thriving with chances for success. We can get there, together.
Connected with the Hawai‘i Coalition for Civil Rights on fighting against this administration's assaults on immigration & civil rights, social justice & the rule of law. Mahalo and I will continue to stand with you to protect our communities from all these reckless & dangerous attacks.
This administration's anti-DEI policies are erasing the courageous accomplishments of Japanese-American service members of the 44nd/100th & MIS.
They fought bravely for a country that treated them as an enemy. Our leaders should have a basic respect for history, not engage in digital book burning.
Grateful to AARP Hawaiʻi for meeting with me to talk Social Security & Medicaid. These programs are essential lifelines for our kūpuna & families who are trying to make ends meet. Mahalo for your advocacy, I stand with you in protecting our social safety nets from threats from this administration.
Visited Wahiawa Health to see how crucial Title X funding supports family planning and preventative health services. With these funds now frozen, clinics like Wahiawa are at risk. We must protect Title X to ensure families have access to healthcare and to keep these critical services in tact.
Mahalo to HCAP’s Kunia Head Start for the warm welcome & talk story. It's heartwarming to see keiki happy and thriving. Head Start is crucial in giving our children a chance, and must be protected at all costs against cuts & disruptions. Our keiki deserve the best shot at a strong future.
Enjoyed a busy day in Hilo! Visited OHA’s new office, met with Mayor Alameda & of course, attended the Merrie Monarch Festival. It was great to spend the day connecting with our Hawai'i Island ʻohana surrounded by the beauty and festivities of the day. 🍍
Good discussion at the HGEA Town Hall, in-person and online. We covered many hot topics, from tariffs to immigration & Social Security. Mahalo to everyone who joined! In these challenging times, I’m committed to continued conversations while working on solutions and fighting for our rights.
Mahalo to Mālama Mākua, the Wai'anae Moku Kupuna Council, & U.S. Army Garrison Hawaiʻi for joining me at the Mākua Military Reservation to install a Peace Pole. This symbol of peace reflects our commitment to spreading aloha & hope for a future free from conflict for all of our communities.
MAUI: The Kākoʻo Maui Office in Kahului is closing at 12:00pm today. My Maui office hours will be impacted as a result. If you need assistance with a federal issue, call my office at (808) 746-6220.
Honored to present certificates to the talented Scrappahz Union 96792 from Nanakuli High & Intermediate School! Their innovative work to reduce and reuse waste earned them 1st place in the KeikiCo Business Plan Competition. Looking forward to seeing their bright future. Congrats Scrappahz! ♻️
Attended a forum at UH Mānoa concerned about recent visa revocations for international students. Students I've talked to are not only confused & frustrated, some fear for their safety in the US. I will continue to stand with our students & fight for their rights during this uncertain time.
Pete Hegseth's reckless handling of sensitive information has put service members’ lives & our national security at risk. Every President deserves a competent Secretary of Defense who puts the security of this country first.
This is not a partisan issue. We all deserve much better than this.
With cuts to the NPS, attacks on natural disaster preparedness & climate science, and this administrationʻs gutting of our country’s environmental & health protections, #EarthDay reminds us to continue fighting for our jobs, our homes, & our planet. Itʻs on us to create a safer, healthier future.
Pope Francis lived as a reminder for all of us to be inclusive & empathetic, whether it was toward our LGBTQ+ ohana, migrants, our planet, or the well-being of humanity.
May we continue to carry on his legacy of compassion, humility & acceptance as we seek to live as he did.
President Trump & DOGE gutted 36 programs at UH ending research in renewable energy, sustainability & health, all things we desperately need in Hawaiʻi. Worse, they are inciting fear among our int'l students & talent.
With more cuts to come, this will not make life in Hawaiʻi great or any easier.
Medicaid is a lifeline for over 287,000 in Hawai‘i, including keiki, pregnant women, people with disabilities & more than half our kūpuna in nursing homes. Cutting Medicaid would harm thousands but this isn’t just about healthcare—it’s about the well-being of our communities.
No cuts to Medicaid.
70 million Americans count on Social Security. So do 175,000 in Hawaiʻi. These are our keiki and kūpuna—real people who have earned and deserve this support.
This isn’t “waste” or “fraud”—for many, it’s a financial lifeline.
Hands off Social Security.
