On National Postal Workers' Day we honor the dedicated workers of the USPS—heroes who deliver our essentials with care and commitment through heat, rain, and snow. As a former letter carrier, I’ve never lost faith in those who play such a vital role in our lives. We must protect this public service!
Caught up with these hardworking Operating Engineers who are helping to rebuild the heart of Toledo — even in this heat. Thanks to NW Ohio’s Building Trades for exemplifying the best that is in all of us and getting the job done!
Today we honor the founding of the National Organization for Women in 1966. Shaped by this movement we stand on the shoulders of pioneers like Betty Friedan, Pauli Murray and Toledo’s own Gloria Steinem. Their vocation to justice, dignity and equality lights our path forward still today.

If you want to understand just a few of the provisions in this bill that explicitly hurt low income Americans to help the super wealthy, read this letter to the editor from our representative. Thank you @repmarcykaptur.bsky.social for being loud about how this will hurt all of us. #ohiodems #DNC
The Big Ugly Bill kills clean energy tax credits AND adds new taxes on solar and wind construction! As electricity demand booms with heatwaves, AI, and data centers, the GOP is abandoning an all of the above energy solution — and big industry in NW Ohio. Bad for jobs, and worse for our energy bills!

Expanding the mission of the National Museum of the Great Lakes with the Second Wave Grand Opening — the Larry & Karen Bettcher Wing and Great Lakes Community Education Center. Together, we’ll inspire visitors with the rich history of those who helped shape our Great Lakes region.
Today I honored the life of a remarkable daughter of NW Ohio, Diane “Dee” Heywood Talmage. While her passing leaves a deep chasm in our community, Dee was a formidable force for good. Her patriotism, philanthropy, good sense and elegance bestowed a legacy that serves as example of a life well lived.
This #BMM25, we honor Toledo’s own Art Tatum — a revolutionary jazz pianist and NW Ohio legend whose rendition of “Blue Skies” stunned the world with its genius. A pioneer of sound, Tatum’s brilliance still echoes through every note. Give it a listen!
My support for law enforcement who defended our Capitol and democracy on January 6th is unwavering. As one of the last Members to be evacuated, I experienced it all. We must honor those who faced down that violent siege, stood in the breach for Liberty, and put their lives on the line that day.
It's time to lower the temperature. Political extremism and dangerous divisions among Americans are cause for serious reflection. This is not a Democrat nor Republican challenge, it's an American challenge.
Investment in this detection and forecast is vital to keeping the drinking water and recreation in Lake Erie safe for Ohioans. After the 2014 Toledo water crisis, we created Daily HABs forecast to keep our citizens informed. If funding is taken away, history could repeat itself.
Today, NOAA and Ohio Sea Grant will announce the 2025 Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) forecast for Lake Erie. This forecast indicates the severity of the bloom season, enabling coastal management and drinking water facility management to take preventive action.
On June 25, 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act became law. This meant that kids could go to school instead of factories. It gave workers a voice, a wage, and a path to dignity. I think of that every time I vote to protect workers. We owe it to those before us to keep fighting for justice on the job.
The GOP Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill promotes premature retirements, paves the way for privatization, and leaves care delayed, denied, and diminished. We need to honor our veterans — not punish them and play political games by firing those who care for them.
SMH. The GOP plan to strip Americans of health care and bankrupt local hospitals takes another turn: kick 16 million off health care then subsidize hospitals for losing patients. Those poor Billionaire donors must really need their tax breaks.
In June of 1877, 10 Irish miners—the Molly Maguires—were hanged to silence their demand for dignity. As a union working-class daughter, I honor their courage. They fought for fair wages and justice underground and above. Their struggle lives on in every worker who still dares to organize—Onward! #1u
It is with great concern for our Republic and the long term safety of our people, and our military both at home and abroad that I must speak out about military force launched without Congressional approval. We must reassert our Constitutional authority before we are dragged into another endless war.
