President Trump’s plan to eliminate Title 1 grants would fire 6,243 teachers in the Second District. That’s unacceptable. This Teacher Appreciation Week and beyond, I promise to protect all educators and public education.
Thank you, @schakowsky.house.gov, for your decades of public service. I'm incredibly grateful for your partnership in the Illinois Delegation & the @energycommerce.bsky.social as we've fought for access to high-quality healthcare. I know you'll continue to be a powerful advocate for The people.
President Trump and DOGE cut millions of dollars for community violence intervention programs. This administration treats American lives callously at the direction of Elon Musk. @frost.house.gov, @mcbath.house.gov, @repshontelbrown.bsky.social, and I are demanding that he reinstate these funds.
In a May 2 letter to the White House, congressional lawmakers urged President Donald Trump to reinstate more than $150 million in Justice Department grants that were abruptly canceled last week. The cuts have jeopardized at least 65 community-based programs across 25 states.
Trump claims that they’re “not going to touch Medicaid"—but the Republican budget directs the @energycommerce.bsky.social to cut $880B... and the Committee oversees Medicaid. 🤔 Take it from a member of the E&C Committee: The math isn’t mathing. I’m prepared to block them at every attempt.
Arm yourselves with facts and vaccinations: Two doses of the measles vaccination provides 97% protection. Children typically receive both doses before turning 6 years old. If you were vaccinated before 1968, check with your healthcare provider to see if you need to be revaccinated.
Two cases of measles have been confirmed in Cook County. There’s a measles outbreak in the US, and anti-vaxxer RFK Jr. is in charge of our nation’s health. Under his watch, two children and an adult have died due to measles—all of whom were unvaccinated. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/04/30/c...
I'm proud to be one of 105 House Democrats to protect the privacy of taxpayer data. If you pay taxes, your privacy should be protected — regardless of your immigration status.
More than 100 House Democrats joined the CHC in standing against Trump's efforts to illegally turn the IRS into immigration enforcement agents. The privacy of taxpayer data is sacred, and Members of Congress demonstrated they will not stand idly by.
President Trump’s accomplishments in 100 days: ☑️Start a trade war ☑️Crash the economy ☑️Let Elon Musk fire thousands of workers ☑️Try to cut Medicaid & Social Security It’s no wonder his approval ratings are at an all-time low. Americans are sick and tired of Trump’s chaos.
I was proud to join @booker.senate.gov & @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social on the Capitol steps — and even more encouraged to see the crowd that gathered. Trump's budget to cut $880 billion from Medicaid will have real consequences and hurt real people. Keep speaking up and speaking out.
This is a moral moment in America. Sitting on the Capitol steps with Leader Hakeem Jeffries this morning to discuss what’s at stake with Trump’s budget and affirm the need for collective action to protect Medicaid, food assistance, and other safety net programs. @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social
Congratulations, @durbin.senate.gov, on nearly 30 years of public service. Your legacy will reverberate throughout Illinois and the country. I wish you, Loretta, and your family all the best.
The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a United States Senator. But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch. So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.
I saw the lifesaving work of 911 operators at SouthCom Dispatch Center in Matteson today. We need to take care of our 911 operators, especially as the Trump admin continues to slash people’s healthcare and mental health programs.
The American people are engaged and speaking out — and I’m listening to them. I hosted a town hall last night in Pontiac to hear my constituents’ questions about the Farm Bill, public education, and the direction of our democracy. I’m bringing their concerns back to DC.
Students evacuated Florida State University today with hands above their heads in response to an active shooter. My heart is with the FSU community as we continue to learn more. I will never accept gun violence as normal. Enough is enough.
For every meal food banks provide, SNAP provides 9 meals—but Republicans want to cut SNAP by $230 billion. I toured Free-N-Deed Market, a food pantry in Dolton, to hear how they’d be affected by SNAP cuts. I’m passing on their message to Republicans: SNAP is essential to putting food on the table.
