Republicans are stealing food from kids, seniors, and veterans to give tax breaks for their billionaire donors. Today, I heard testimonies on how SNAP helps lift families out of poverty. Republican SNAP cuts will raise grocery bills & make it harder to put food on the table.
Rep. Robin Kelly listens to testimonies from people impacted by SNAP in a hearing organized by House Democrats.
A veteran shares how SNAP benefits helped her family when her child was diagnosed with leukemia.
A mother shares how SNAP benefits helped her provide food for her family.
A son shared how his mother provided food for him and his brother because of SNAP benefits.
Every student deserves a quality education, regardless of income or disability. Throughout my career, I've met many bright, passionate students across the district. I won’t let Trump shut down the Department of Education and deprive these students from thriving.
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, I covered Trump’s Executive Order to dismantle the Department of Education—paving the way for Republicans to slash support for students, teachers, and schools. @housedemocrats.bsky.social will fight this every step of the way.
15 years ago, the Affordable Care Act started to change lives by saving Americans millions of dollars in medical bills. Now, more people are covered than ever — and at a lower cost. House Republicans are now attacking people’s healthcare. I refuse to let them take us back.
Trump wants to close six out of ten regional offices of the HHS that combat fraud, inflated prices, and waste. One of those offices serves Illinois and returned more than $3.4B to the government and individuals in 2023. How does closing these offices make our healthcare system more efficient?
After this week’s severe storm, we must not underestimate how essential the NOAA is in preparing us for inclement weather. Trump’s illegal termination of its employees puts the lives of many at risk in the face of potential disasters.
Jackie Robinson, beyond his legendary impact on American sports, served our country bravely during World War II. Trump can try to erase his legacy — but we will not forget Jackie, or the thousands of women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people who served.
I heard directly from constituents at my event, “A Conversation with Robin” — because I believe Members of Congress should actually show up and listen to The People. I’m excited to have more conversations throughout my district and beyond.
Trump just signed an executive order to eliminate the Department of Education. Trump and his Republican enablers want to fire teachers, gut public education, and steal learning opportunities from our students. Our students deserve better.
President Trump signed an executive order directing recently sworn-in Education Secretary Linda McMahon to begin dismantling the Department of Education, marking the most aggressive move yet in his administration’s assault on public schools.
Hair discrimination is racial discrimination. Period. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman's CROWN act would prohibit race-based hair discrimination in schools and in the workplace that especially affects Black Americans across the country.
House Republicans want to give even more money to billionaires — by cutting $880 from Medicaid. I held a press conference at Roseland Community Hospital to fight for its patients that rely on Medicaid and tell Republicans to stop tampering with our healthcare systems.
The Trump administration has launched a series of attacks that would reverse the progress of lifesaving gun safety laws. Trump doesn’t actually care about law and order. He isn’t anti-crime. He’s anti-safety.
Thank you @marchofdimes for recognizing my work in supporting legislation that helps mothers and their babies. Affordable, reliable healthcare for women and their families is a priority that I will continue to advocate for.
Republicans just gave Trump spending power on a silver platter with no guardrails or protections for the American people. Trump will gleefully sign this partisan funding bill and accelerate his attacks on Social Security, healthcare, housing, and food for children.
Trump wants to gut the Department of Education. Everyone from college students to children with disabilities will be affected — all to put more money in the pockets of the wealthy few who want to profit from our education system.
Rep. Raúl Grijalva was a great public servant for Arizonans and beyond. After a long battle against cancer, I hope he now finds rest. My heart is with his family and loved ones as they grieve and remember his life and legacy
The Trump administration froze funds to HIV and AIDS programs, risking millions of lives. I held a briefing with experts to discuss the status of PEPFAR, one of the most successful global health programs, and a plan forward.
House Democrats have always been at the negotiating table to keep the government open. I am ready to vote today, tomorrow, or Friday to pass a four-week extension so we can have a bipartisan funding agreement that stops harmful cuts. Republicans must come back to the table.
Trump proves once again that his loyalty lies solely with his billionaire friends. He’ll rush to defend Elon Musk and even transform the White House into a car dealership — but where is the same effort for the American people who suffer under his administration everyday?
