Did you know the longest military event of the Civil War occurred around Petersburg? For nine months, the Siege of Petersburg began the end of the war. From Grant’s Headquarters at City Point, the Crater in Petersburg, and battlefields in Dinwiddie and Prince George, there is a lot to see.

Maggie L. Walker — the first Black woman to charter a bank and serve as a bank president, a civil rights advocate and community leader — paved the way for millions like her to succeed. Learn more about Maggie Walker and when you can visit her home here:
This #NationalParkWeek, I’m highlighting sites in the district maintained by the National Park Service that build upon our shared history. But this year, VA-04 locations like the Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site can’t open at full capacity due to the Trump Administration's mass layoffs.

⁨This evening begins Yom HaShoah, when we recognize the millions murdered in the Holocaust by Nazi Germany and its allies, honor the resilience of those who survived, and recommit to preventing such atrocities from ever happening again.

The first woman represented in a monument on the grounds of the Virginia State Capitol, Barbara will join George Washington to represent Virginia in the U.S. Capitol Statuary Hall later this year. Learn more about Barbara and the student-led strike at the Robert Russa Moton Museum:
Today is Barbara Johns Day, marking the 74th anniversary of when she led a student walk-out to fight for better school conditions. Her actions led to one of five cases consolidated into the landmark Brown v. Board striking down segregation in public schools.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Our children deserve a future where clean air, safe water and a stable climate are not luxuries, but guarantees. I joined @dorismatsui.bsky.social, @neguse.house.gov and @repcohen.bsky.social to reaffirm our commitment to climate action and environmental justice.

This alarming and reckless pattern of handling sensitive national security information by our top defense official should not be tolerated. Pete Hegseth must go.
Secretary Hegseth has once again proven that he cannot be trusted to lead our armed forces or act in our nation’s best interests. He must resign or be fired immediately. Statement from chair @repschneider.bsky.social and National Security Working Group Chair Rep. Gil Cisneros ⬇️
The Fifth Amendment unambiguously states that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. It applies to noncitizens. It does not provide an exception for only when due process is convenient.
