They don’t call it “breaking bread” for nothing!
Today’s markup lunch: Idaho fries from Rep. Simpson + my homemade wild Maine blueberry pies (leave it to a Mainer to whip up 8 pies in a morning!).
Maybe after this we can come back to the table and make this funding bill bipartisan!
One can hope.

The Kennedy Center is a national treasure and a living monument to JFK and his love of the arts. We need to do everything we can to preserve and protect it.
The whole debate is pretty illuminating.
Republicans argued the amendment was pointless. But Trump has REPEATEDLY ignored Congress and moved money around however he wants—the ballroom, the East Wing, the reflecting pool.
This is about taking a stand and reclaiming our power as a *co-equal* branch!
One of my amendments was simple: NO TRUMP ARCH!
Most Americans oppose it. Veterans groups oppose it. It’s a huge waste of taxpayer money.
Republicans say there’s no funding in the bill for an arch anyway. You think Trump cares about Congressional approval!?
They can't stand up to him on ANYTHING!
The Republicans’ spending bill for Interior + Environment is a disaster:
🚨 20% cut to EPA
🚨 Free passes to polluters
🚨 Rollbacks on PFAS regulations
🚨 Millions for Trump’s vanity projects
They care more about the president’s ego than the health of people and our planet.
We're in for a FIGHT.
Our fishing communities, working waterfronts, and coastal towns need the best science available to understand rapidly changing ocean conditions and prepare for what is coming.
Ignoring the climate crisis won't make it go away. It just makes us less prepared for what comes next.
Trump’s decision to dismantle the Ocean Observatories Initiative is incredibly shortsighted.
This network provides real-time data on ocean warming, marine heat waves, coastal flooding, fishery health, and powerful currents that shape our climate.
Maine will feel the impacts of losing this data.
This reporting confirms what many have suspected all along: that these cancellations had nothing to do with rooting out “waste, fraud, and abuse,” and everything to do with targeting programs that actually help people of color.
Back in March, USDA terminated $300 million in grants that helped underserved farmers.
They say the money was being used for frivolous expenses. But many recipients are scratching their heads. Not only do they know nothing about these alleged purchases; the expenses have ZERO to do with the grant!
Chilly ferry ride! Heading to DC for a busy week:
🔴War Powers Resolution to rein in Trump’s illegal war (Republicans can’t run away this time!)
🔴 Interior + Environment markup, where we’ll fight Trump’s looting of NPS for his vanity projects
🔴 More lies and craziness, no doubt
Let’s get to work.
Happy #Pride! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🇺🇸
Not only will these rollbacks harm people and communities; they'll put enormous financial pressure on states.
We’ll keep fighting this anti-science Administration tooth and nail. And we won’t stop until the EPA returns to its mission of protecting people and the planet—not the profits of polluters.
BIG fight ahead on EPA funding and the agency’s ridiculous rollbacks on toxic chemicals.
PFAS in drinking water.
Delayed compliance on vehicle emissions and pollution from coal-fired plants.
Postponing regulations on efficient refrigerators.
Republicans want to give the green light to ALL of it.
Checking in on the President, who doesn’t seem to be taking the news very well…throwing a little tantrum!
Trump tried to slap his name on the Kennedy Center like it was one of his tacky hotels.
Today a federal judge made clear what we've said all along: He had no legal authority to do it.
The Kennedy Center belongs to the American people. Now and always.
How fitting that today is JFK’s birthday!
We mark up the Interior + Environment funding bill next week, and you can be damn sure @democrats-appropriations.house.gov will be fighting back hard against this gross abuse of taxpayer dollars.
Trump and his vanity projects are completely out of control.
This week, we learned he’s raiding NPS entrance fee revenue to help pay for his tacky vanity projects around DC.
Meanwhile, parks like Acadia are facing real maintenance backlogs, which is exactly what that money is supposed to help fix.
DHS is working overtime to spin insane propaganda about the conditions in these facilities.
I've been inside. People are being held in conditions that are dangerous, dehumanizing, and, in too many cases, deadly.
Congress needs answers. And ICE must be held accountable before more lives are lost.
Since October, at least 7 people detained by ICE have died by suicide—a number that “far exceeds the growth of the detainee population."
51 have died in ICE custody since Trump took office. Experts believe many of these deaths could've been prevented.
It's horrifying. And it demands investigation.
From Day One of this Administration, Trump has treated the DOJ like his personal law firm and police force.
This is authoritarianism—pure and simple.
How much longer will Republicans allow him to get away with this!?!? (3/3)
