During an ongoing national crisis of mass shootings, the Trump administration wants to ignore a 99-year-old law and allow people to mail handguns. We need to make it harder for criminals to get guns, not easier.
Instead of ending the war with Iran and bringing costs down, the Republican majority in Congress gave ICE and CBP an extra $70 BILLION in taxpayer money yesterday. This comes after Congress had already funded the agencies through 2032. This is not what the American people want.
Our schools should be safe havens for all kids, no matter their identity. We should trust our educators to support students and back schools teaching evidence-based curriculum.
Yesterday, I joined my colleagues in standing in solidarity with Chicago Public Schools students, teachers, and parents. Instead of supporting our students, Republicans on the Education and Workforce Committee dragged CPS Superintendent Dr. Macquline King to Washington for a pointless hearing.
Requirements include physical fitness, personal development, and over 400 hours of extraordinary community service. John spent these hours raising awareness for blood cancer, while Riya volunteered for at a hospital and an animal shelter. Congrats to Riya and John!
Yesterday, I met with Riya Narepalem and John Ciok—our newest Congressional Award Gold Medalists. The Congressional Award Gold Medal is the highest award Congress can bestow on a civilian American youth.
It’s easy to “love the inflation” when you don’t have to worry about paying for groceries or making rent.   I have voted YES for every War Powers Resolution to end this war in Iran, remove the inflationary tariffs, and bring prices DOWN.
Q: Are you concerned about the latest inflation numbers that came out this morning? TRUMP: No, I love it. I love the inflation. You know why? Because as soon as this war is over -- do you know we've been taking out millions of barrels of oil? You know who doesn't know? Iran until right now.
CDOT employee and activist Riley O'Neil died while biking on Halsted Street. This is why we need dedicated bike lanes. I’m proud to cosponsor the Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program (ATIIP) Reauthorization Act to keep funding investments that keep our roads safe for everyone.
Congress already funded ICE and CBP for the next six years. We can not give them an unlimited budget when there's an administration unwilling to limit their conduct.
This afternoon, I'm going to vote against the DHS funding bill. House Republicans want to give ICE and CBP an extra $70 BILLION for the next year, without implementing any commonsense reforms like body cameras.
Happy #NationalTrailsDay! I had the honor of securing $850,000 to support our Weber Spur bike trail—a decade-in-the-making trail repurposing the former Union Pacific rail line. Join me in celebrating today by getting outside and enjoying everything our trails have to offer.
Today marks the 81-year anniversary of D-Day, when the Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy in what became the first of several battles that helped us defeat Nazi Germany. Today, we honor our troops who served during World War II and remember those whose sacrifice changed history.
On Wednesday, the House passed a War Powers Resolution to STOP Trump’s war with Iran. This is the fifth time I have voted for this measure, but this is the first time enough Republicans had the courage to defy Trump and stand up for their constituents.   We have to stand together & stop this war.
We need to keep giving Ukraine a fighting chance against Russia. We are the ONLY THING keeping him from taking the country and the rest of Eastern Europe.
Last night, I voted to pass the Ukraine Support Act to continue sending aid to Ukraine. The majority of Republicans voted no on this bill, and to this day, Trump has still not said specified who he wants to win the war.
We need to keep giving Ukraine a fighting chance against Russia. We are the ONLY THING keeping him from taking the country and the rest of Eastern Europe.
