When it comes to the sensitive data of the American people, nothing is reassuring about a private, Republican-only meeting behind closed doors. My GOP colleagues are letting Elon and his band of misfits control our government — we need to protect our information!
Completely agree @reed.senate.gov. Americans didn’t elect an unqualified billionaire to access their personal data and wreak havoc on government systems. We need all hands on deck to stop them from breaking the law.
I want answers about the Trump Administration granting unprecedented & dangerous outsider access to the highly sensitive Treasury system that holds the personal info of millions of Americans & distributes funding for critical gov’t functions. This chaos, abuse of power, & lawlessness must end.
My fellow Democrats and I on @houseforeign.bsky.social will not stand idly by as the executive branch guts critical government programs and services — the American people deserve answers from @secrubio.bsky.social.
RM @Meeks.house.gov, HFAC Dems letter to Mast requesting a hearing with Secretary Marco Rubio and Director of Foreign Assistance Peter Marocco and expressing alarm over Trump Admin’s actions, including freezing foreign assistance, retaliating against career public servants & dismantling USAID.
Amidst attacks on public employees, I was grateful to celebrate the #SocialSecurityFairnessAct — a long overdue law that rightfully restored hard-earned Social Security benefits to public service employees like teachers, firefighters, and police officers, including 7,600 Rhode Islanders.
House Democrats (@housedemocrats.bsky.social) from across the country are fighting Trump’s unnecessary and harmful tax on hardworking Americans. We’re calling for an end to this chaotic trade war that will raise prices, hurt businesses, and cost jobs.
NEW: Tonight I sent a letter—cosigned by 42 of my colleagues—to President Trump calling on him to immediately rescind the 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Here's the bottom line: these tariffs will hurt Americans already struggling with high prices and kill U.S. jobs.
President Trump is jacking up costs for Americans. With no plan to bring down costs for our country, Trump is starting a chaotic trade war at the expense of our workers and the whole economy.
In the face of unrelenting attacks on the values of diversity and inclusion, we celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth and the legacy Black Americans who stood against bigotry and tore down walls of injustice. We must never back down from the pursuit of realizing the Beloved Community.
Organizations that provide life-saving humanitarian aid deserve clarity from the State Department — not additional chaos and confusion. I call on Secretary Rubio to rescind the federal foreign aid freeze so we can promote American national security and interests.
Congratulations to RI National Guard’s new Adjunct General for Rhode Island: Brigadier General Andrew J. Chevalier! Honored to join the Change of Command Ceremony today and thank Major General Chris Callahan for his over 40 years of dedicated service to our state.
This court action reaffirms what we know to be true: the Trump Administration is acting unlawfully in trying undo the work of Congress to invest in our communities. We’ll continue to fight against the chaos and disruption to our shared priorities.
“I am grateful for Judge McConnell’s careful consideration of this matter and for seeing the irreparable harm that this directive would cause," R.I. Attorney General Peter Neronha said in a statement. Story by @elisherman.bsky.social and @timwhiteri.bsky.social: www.wpri.com/target-12/ri...
RI federal judge temporarily blocks funding freeze
Celebrated 50 years of the Earned Income Tax Credit with United Way RI by discussing my work on @housebudgetdems.bsky.social to ensure no one’s left behind.   I'll continue fighting proposed Republican cuts to programs for the many & tax breaks for the well-connected few.
The recent anti-LGBTQ+ measures signed by @POTUS are discriminatory and cruel.   Executive actions cannot override the constitution, federal law, and medical best practices.   I will continue to work with my @equality.house.gov colleagues to fight these attacks on our fellow Americans.
At a summit hosted by the Oceantic Network, I advocated for protecting the gains we've made as a leader in offshore wind — hundreds of family-sustaining jobs that don’t require a college degree and progress on climate action to build a better clean energy future for Rhode Islanders.
Congratulations to our #RI01 2024 #CongressionalAppChallenge Winner, Seryn Lee! Seryn’s app, JENA, was created to build connections between seniors and those experiencing academic inequality.📱 Thanks for coming to our district office to share more about your work!
As Vice Ranking Member of @houseforeign.bsky.social, I’m sharing this thread highlighting how the first nine days of the Trump Administration have negatively impacted our leadership on the global stage:
From freezing all US aid to gutting career experts across the State Department and USAID and purging government watchdogs, the Trump Administration has already caused a lot of chaos and confusion. A 🧵to round it up:
After the chaos and confusion caused by Trump’s illegal federal funding freeze, I met with staff at Children’s Friend who had to scramble to make payroll this week. I’ll continue to stand with our most vulnerable Rhode Islanders as we fight against the Republican rip off.
