This is a tragedy. My prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims of this week’s flash floods. I also want to thank the first responders for their commitment to the ongoing recovery efforts.
Officials are beginning to identify the victims of flooding in San Antonio.
At least 10 people are dead and at least six are missing after record rainfall across the city. https://bit.ly/3FF7tCG

My colleagues and I went to Speaker Johnson’s and Leader Thune’s offices just now to demand an investigation into the assault of @padilla.senate.gov. Let’s be clear: Republican leadership is complicit in enabling the growing authoritarianism in this country.
The administration - and Steve Witkoff - were about to start the next round of negotiations to reach a deal with Iran.
This attack by Netanyahu is pure sabotage.
What does “America First” even mean if Trump allows Netanyahu to drag the country into a war Americans don’t want?

The administration is trying to stomp out anyone who disagrees with them, including public officials doing their jobs like @padilla.senate.gov. These shocking actions are a danger to the rights of all Americans.
This is another alarming sign that Donald Trump is taking this country towards authoritarianism.
(5/5) By needlessly deploying the National Guard, Governor Abbott is escalating tensions rather than promoting safety and calm. Abbott’s reckless actions will make protesters and officers alike less safe.
(4/5) We are grateful that Mayor Nirenberg and Chief McManus are directing local law enforcement to protect the First Amendment rights and safety of everyone.
(3/5) Our community will not be intimidated, and we encourage everyone to gather peacefully against President Trump's unlawful, undemocratic actions: ignoring court orders, weaponizing federal agencies against his perceived enemies, and tearing apart immigrant families.
(2/5) By deploying the National Guard, Governor Abbott is trying to intimidate our community for rallying against President Trump's authoritarian policies. And if he were serious about working with our local authorities, he would have alerted them before making this inflammatory decision.
(1/5) San Antonio takes great pride in its history of peaceful demonstrations in support of civil rights, social justice, and economic equality.
🧵My statement with @repcasar.bsky.social on Governor Greg Abbott deploying the National Guard to San Antonio:
General Richard E. Cavazos was a military hero — the first Hispanic four-star general who represents the best of Texas. President Trump should do the right thing and continue to honor General Cavazos’ extraordinary service to our country and keep the base named after him.
These ongoing arrests are an ugly bait and switch that punish folks for following the rules. This is discouraging other people from following the law and showing up for their court hearings. It’s so wrong and we need to hold the authorities accountable.

This action is escalatory and authoritarian. The Trump administration continues to take any opportunity to sow chaos, diminish the rule of law, and undermine our constitutional rights.

ICE arrested former Afghan Nat'l Army soldier—our ally against Taliban—at his home in TX.
He entered legally and atty says he has no criminal record. Was applying for asylum. Appears to be casualty of Trump decision de-documenting legal Afghan immigrants

Today we honor the courage of those who fought in Normandy 81 years ago. On D-Day, thousands stormed the beaches of Normandy and fought for our freedom and the freedom of our allies. Today we honor their legacy and sacrifice.
I look forward to seeing the STEM talent our students have to offer! Register at bit.ly/registerforcac.
San Antonio! The 2025 Congressional App Challenge has launched!
Middle and high school students are invited to submit original apps for a chance to win the annual challenge. The first-place winner will be flown out to D.C. for a special reception.
It’s backdoor legislating by cowards. And it will hurt Texans.
