An update from me from Northern Mexico—today, I visited a family who was deported, without due process, from the U.S. with their U.S. citizen children—including their 11-year-old daughter who is suffering from a brain tumor.
The rights of U.S. citizens are being taken away, and the American people need to wake up to what is going on and speak out against it.
But this goes well beyond self-defense. Hamas leadership is mostly in bunkers or overseas with their own food supplies while civilians with little power to affect the course of the conflict suffer the consequences.
We have repeatedly denounced Hamas’ brutality on October 7th, met with hostage families and demanded the release of all hostages, and supported Israel’s self-defense over the years.
Many, including thousands of children, are starving. Intentional mass starvation is a war crime.
🧵I joined nearly 100 colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives to demand that the Israeli Government stop its months-long blockade of food and aid to Gaza.

Congratulations to Pope Leo XIV — our first American Pope — and a Pope reflective of the late Pope Francis’ creed to choose light over darkness, to be kind to our neighbor, and to work to uplift and unify all people in a divided world. Congratulazioni!
Great to see some familiar faces on Capitol Hill yesterday during National Small Business Week, where we celebrated the Latino entrepreneurs who drive the economy forward.
Thank you to Aquí and the Latino Community Foundation for advocating for our community.

Even *if* you accept Stephen Miller’s (textually, historically, and morally indefensible) claim that undocumented immigrants are not entitled to due process, you’d *still* need due process to ensure that the individuals at issue are, in fact, undocumented.
His argument fails even on its own terms.
For decades public media has been a free, invaluable source of news, entertainment, and educational programming for Americans.
But now Donald Trump wants to shut it down. The reason? He doesn’t like the content. This is what authoritarian governments do.

This is beyond frightening!
Democrats in Washington proposed an amendment that prohibits Federal funds being used to deport Americans. Republicans on the Judiciary Committee voted to KILL the amendment.
Another extremely dark turn by the GOP/Trump Administration.

Even Trump-appointed judges agree that the Administration is willfully abusing the rule of law. I am glad to see the courts standing up for due process and the rule of law.
Donald Trump relied on compliant ICE officers to obey illegal orders and deport three U.S. citizen children to Honduras. These ICE officials must search their conscience — and we, as Americans, must push back.

The Trump Administration illegally deported, against his mother’s will, a 4-year-old U.S. citizen with Stage four cancer. Tell me – what crime did this child commit?
The rights of every American are endangered by this kind of lawless action by our government.
The Administration is working to dismantle agencies, like USAID and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, that were established by law. These actions do not make us safer, stronger, or more prosperous.

USCIS tricked a Kansas mom into showing up for a spousal interview for her green card appointment—it was a trap for ICE to detain her. www.kansascity.com/news/local/a...
I applaud MALDEF for continuing to fight the good fight and I stand with you.
Thank you to @maldef.bsky.social for awarding me the Excellence in Government Service Award last week. From standing up for constituent rights, to community outreach and successful litigation, MALDEF has remained a pillar in our community.
