Healthcare is a small business issue.
When premiums go up, owners feel it. Workers feel it. Families feel it.
Republicans let enhanced premium tax credits expire, and millions of small business owners are paying the price.
This World Red Cross Day, I’m grateful for the volunteers and staff who show up for people in crisis.
In the U.S., the Red Cross helps someone every eight minutes. When disaster strikes or families need help, they show up.
Even as we face healthcare cuts, a gutted Medicaid, and budgets that prioritize war over care, we are not growing weary.
Last week’s @nmqf.bsky.social honorees remind us what we’re fighting for: health equity, dignity, and a future where your ZIP code or skin color does not decide your life.
When small businesses get squeezed, workers and consumers feel it too.
Trump’s tariffs raise costs, shrink margins, and force hard choices for the local businesses our communities rely on.

The student council members at Community Consolidated Schools District 168 surprised me for my birthday last week!
What a birthday treat to talk with our young leaders of today.
As I travel across the second congressional district, I hear the same thing from small business owners.
Tariffs cost small businesses an estimated $83 billion last year. That is money that could have gone to:
✅ Workers
✅ Rent
✅ Inventory
✅ Keeping the doors open
We’ve seen this before. Tobacco companies targeted Black communities for decades, driving devastating health disparities.
I refuse to let another Black generation be taken advantage of by Big Tobacco reinvented.
The FDA caved to Trump’s pressure to approve flavored e-cigarettes. Kids and teenagers, especially Black youth, will pay the price. Flavored vapes are especially addicting, designed to pad the pockets of billionaire vape companies and to deteriorate our health.

On National Nurses Day, I’m grateful to the nurses who care for our families, comfort us in hard moments, and keep our communities healthy.
Your skill, compassion, and thoughtful care make a difference every single day. Thank you.
With over 4,500 farms in my district, this affordability crisis hits home.
Nearly 6 in 10 farmers report worsening financial conditions as fertilizer and fuel costs rise. Republicans should be helping farmers, not cutting the lifelines they rely on.

President Trump has failed our small business owners. His tariffs alone have cost small businesses $83 billion in direct import taxes last year.
This National Small Business Week, I’ll keep listening to small business owners in the Second District to put Main Street over Wall Street.
Mercedes Wells should never have been discharged while in active labor.
As Chair of the CBC Health Braintrust, I introduced the WELLS Act to make healthcare providers think twice before discharging a pregnant patient.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I join the @hispaniccaucus.bsky.social in celebrating Cinco de Mayo and honoring the resilience, culture, and contributions of Mexican Americans who continue to shape our communities and our country every day. #CincoDeMayo
This Asian American, Native Hawaiian, & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we celebrate our #AANHPI neighbors.
We honor these communities, their rich culture, and countless contributions they have made to our country.
Last week, the Supreme Court heard a case that could affect 1.3 million people.
Haitian and Syrian TPS holders are our neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones.
Ending TPS would tear families apart and hurt communities across Illinois.
Mifepristone was safe and effective when FDA first approved it over 25 years ago—and it remains safe and effective today.
As I continue to monitor actions by #SCOTUS, know that I will never stop fighting for your access to reproductive healthcare.
This is Trump’s economy:
Higher costs.
Medicaid cuts.
Trump's Tariffs.
Rising healthcare premiums.
Families are not struggling by accident. They are paying for Republican choices.
Republicans had a choice:
Lower healthcare costs for families, or hand $70 billion to ICE.
They chose ICE over affordable healthcare, safer communities, and working families. Shame on Republicans.
