Is it America First, or Argentina First?
While the GOP keeps the government shut down, workers and their families go without pay, programs like WIC and SNAP are at risk, and Trump is sending $20B to bail out his far-right ally Javier Milei.
I’ve written to the Treasury Secretary demanding answers.
Trump just laid off 500 Education Dept. workers—targeting programs like special education, afterschool care and HBCU support.
He’s punishing kids, working families, students, and even people with disabilities—just to force Democrats to cave on health care.
I won’t. Memphis families deserve better.
As this ceasefire begins, my hope is for peace and relief for all families who’ve suffered—the hostages finally reunited with their families in Israel, and the innocent children and people in Gaza.
The focus now must be on an increased surge of humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians.

James Comey, and now Letitia James. Trump believes he is the law right now. And in the authoritarian state we live in he is. And the Supreme Court is an accomplice and the Republican majority refuses to stand up for democracy and impeach him for Constitutional offenses.
America where art thou!
10 years after I secured $30M to launch Foote Park at South City—and later $750K more to complete it—we cut the ribbon on its final phase today.
What was once one of Memphis’ most distressed areas is now some of the best public housing in America—safe, modern, beautiful homes for 700+ families.
Trump had the GOP shut down the government in the middle of a health care crisis—and now he’s sending troops into American cities, including Memphis, to intimidate people and score political points.
Memphis doesn’t need an occupying force. We need real partnerships and investment in our people.
It's been over a month since I signed the petition to release the Epstein files—and look what's happened.
The GOP shut down government, ran for the exits & are blocking a new Democrat from being sworn in who could give us the votes.
You don't go to these lengths to hide nothing. They're panicked.
Trump is now saying he'll force civil servants to work through the GOP shutdown without backpay. He'll steal their paychecks to try and force Democrats to cave on ACA credits.
This is not the time to back down. Not while they threaten workers’ pay AND your healthcare—all to help billionaires.

WIC funds are about to run out and thousands could miss paychecks this week because Republicans still refuse to negotiate.
This is the GOP's shutdown. They set the deadline, made no effort to avoid it, & would rather let kids go hungry & families go without pay than back off their health care cuts.

I’m deferring my pay for the duration of the shutdown.
Thousands of people in Memphis & TN9 are going to be impacted—from federal employees and servicemembers to contractors & middle-class families who keep our city running.
If they aren't getting paid because of the GOP shutdown, neither will I.
On the case now and for decades standing up and delivering for my constituents

Republicans control the White House, Senate & House. They set this shutdown deadline, and then jammed through the Big Ugly Bill gutting SNAP, Medicaid & ACA tax credits to enrich billionaires.
Now they need Dems and won't negotiate—and blocked us from offering an alternative.
It's a GOP shutdown.

The long-term solution to crime is better schools, more job opportunities, more mental health resources, and real law enforcement partnerships. Not the National Guard.
Trump's deployment won't solve crime. The real concern is it's a cover for ICE to rip good, hardworking people from our community.

I’ll be on @cnn.com at 9:20am CT to discuss why sending the National Guard into Memphis is the wrong approach.
Memphis deserves real investment to improve education and job opportunities, and real law enforcement partnerships. Not political stunts.
Former interim Mayor & longest-serving Memphis councilman Myron Lowery lived a life of service with integrity & grace. Myron and I supported each other through elections, but more important was our 50-year friendship. I’ll miss him. Condolences to Mary, Mickell, and his family. A life well lived.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
