I was thankful to serve as a special guest this evening at the Hampton NAACP Rise for Justice: Minneapolis Vigil For the Innocent, where members of the Clergy, elected officials and concerned citizens joined together to mourn the tragedies in Minneapolis
I enjoyed participating in the dialogue about issues that affect the regional economy during the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly Rising Tide program

Donald Trump must fire Kristi Noem immediately.
Or Democrats will initiate impeachment proceedings against her in the House.
We can do this the easy way or the hard way.
ICE and CBP have demonstrated a pattern of civil rights abuses and excessive enforcement in Minnesota.
DHS has made our communities less safe.
I joined @reptedlieu.bsky.social and fellow Veterans calling for ICE and CBP to stand down.
Ms. Good's death and the smear campaign that followed show a dangerous willingness by this administration to excuse lethal force and mislead the public rather than be transparent. www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...
Despite clear video evidence and eyewitness accounts, federal officials falsely labeled her a "domestic terrorist” and are investigating her widow rather than the ICE agent who killed her. www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...
This isn’t just about one person, it's part of a broader pattern of federal officials disparaging victims instead of taking responsibility. This is the same playbook used earlier this month in the killing of Renée Good, a devoted mother and U.S. citizen shot and killed by an ICE agent.
Alex Pretti was a US citizen & ICU nurse with no criminal history beyond minor traffic infractions, known by colleagues and loved ones as kind, competent, and devoted to caring for veterans. To deny him dignity in death and misrepresent what happened is reprehensible. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
Civilian footage shows him holding a phone and not brandishing a weapon in the moments before he was pepper-sprayed, wrestled to the ground, and fatally shot by Border Patrol agents. His family has called the administration’s narrative “sickening lies.” www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Multiple independent video recordings contradict claims by the Trump administration that Mr. Pretti was armed and posed an imminent threat. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
That a court had to intervene to ensure compliance with the law is a sad testament to how far this administration is willing to go to shield federal agents from scrutiny and accountability. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...
I congratulate Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison for securing a federal court order requiring DHS/ICE to preserve evidence and stop obstructing justice in the investigation of the killing of Alex Pretti. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...
All Americans deserve to know that constitutional rights and human life are being respected.

This latest incident underscores the urgent need for Congress to exercise robust oversight over federal immigration enforcement operations, including clear standards for use-of-force, training, and accountability mechanisms.
My thoughts are with the individual’s family, loved ones, and all those directly affected by this tragedy.
Every life lost is a profound loss, and no community should be placed in a position of fear during law enforcement actions.
I am closely monitoring the situation as details continue to emerge. It is critical that there be a thorough, transparent and independent investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
I am saddened and deeply concerned by reports that a person was shot and killed today in Minneapolis during an encounter with federal law enforcement agents, including ICE, amid the ongoing immigration enforcement operations in the city.

It was an honor to join Mayor Phillip Jones, Pastor Fred Michaux and Pastor Vanessa Michaux last evening at the 20th Anniversary of uNNity, which brings city leaders and church partners together to serve the community

The EEOC just quietly eliminated critical guidance that helped employers maintain harassment-free workplaces and safeguard employees on the job.
In November, @bobbyscott.house.gov warned the EEOC about the consequences of rescinding this guidance. ⤵️
