3 yrs after Putin launched an illegal & unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, I’m horrified to see Trump & Elon Musk bend the knee to Putin—not only regurgitating Kremlin lies about the start of the war but selling out Ukrainians, & US national security interests, for nothing in return.
What we don't need is devastating cuts to Medicaid, a program that helps feed kids, seniors and people with disabilities, and is an important lifeline to affordable healthcare for one in three Americans.
I sat down with physicians, nutritionists, and patient advocates for an informative discussion on the state of healthcare in our community. Chronic disease resulting from obesity has reached epidemic proportions in our nation, and we need a strategy to counter it.
I was proud to recently honor John Lewis’s legacy here in Illinois’s 10th – where a new mural entitled “Pathway to Dreams” was unveiled at John R. Lewis Middle School in Waukegan. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations here in Illinois and across the nation.
Happy Birthday to the late civil rights icon and my former colleague and friend, John Lewis. John Lewis was more than just an activist—he was a fearless freedom fighter and a steadfast champion of justice, equality, and the rights of all Americans.
Toured Centennial and Elder Lane Beach Park in Winnetka to gain a better understanding of the proposed plans. Grateful for the discussion with Park District Board President Christiana Codo, Commissioner Warren James, and Andy Cripe. The icy lake views this morning were beautiful—stay warm out there!
Had a great meeting with Luis and Brian from the Letter Carriers about protecting postal workers and ensuring our post offices remain efficient. It's vital to support those who keep our mail moving— which is why I support legislation to restore USPS standards and safeguard six-day mail delivery.
Had the privilege of meeting with Brotha Blanks to discuss enshrining Robert Smalls’ legacy. At 23, Smalls freed himself and 16 other enslaved people by steering a Confederate ship to the Union Navy. He later became a Union naval captain and served in Congress. An honor to help Blanks honor Smalls.
Happy Valentine's Day! Our Valentine’s for Vets campaign was a huge success—we collected 1,000+ cards from students, libraries, and kind community members. Honored to deliver them to veterans at Lovell Federal Health Care Center with Dr. Buckley and Kenny List. Thank you to all!
The Republican budget takes away meals from hungry kids to make room for tax breaks for the ultra-ultra-wealthy.
Americans are hurting from the cost of Trump’s chaos and Elon Musk’s Mess. Now, Republicans are proposing a budget to cut costs for billionaires and make life more expensive for working families. New Dems are fighting back. Listen to Chair @repschneider.bsky.social's take on the House GOP budget ⬇️
Elon Musk & his minions should be nowhere near your social security info. Yet, after the invasion of your privacy last week, their sights are set on the Social Security Administration. I joined every Ways & Means Democrat to demand answers about the security of your private information.
Despite Trump and Musk's first few weeks of chaos and confusion, New Dems remain focused on lowering costs for families and keeping Americans safe. Highlights from @repschneider.bsky.social, @carbajal.house.gov, @mcclellan.house.gov, & Rep. Darren Soto ⬇️
