Tomorrow, in room E1.030 of the State Capitol, sometime before noon, I will testify against Trump’s re-redistricting map that dismembers Travis County to ensure the GOP keeps its lock on a compliant, complacent Congress. Today, on CNN, I discussed the harm of this fixed scheme.
Trump’s Treasury Secretary says the quiet part out loud: Republicans are determined to privatize Social Security. Your hard-earned benefits are under threat as Abbott and Texas GOP carve up our community to deliver 5 more unaccountable Republicans to rubber-stamp this plan.
Trump’s attempt to fix the next election by gerrymandering his way to continued control of a compliant GOP House does direct harm to Texas families. I joined Leader Jeffries, and Congressional and State colleagues at our Texas Capitol to reject Trump’s power grab.
Just one child killed is unspeakable—nearly 20,000 is inexplicable. Gaza’s children should never have been forced to pay the price for Hamas's and Netanyahu’s obsession with power. To end the burial of those who have not even taken their first step, ending the war NOW must be the next step.
Trump’s take-5 approach for Texas gerrymandering is just the beginning of his power grab. Eliminate a Democrat in Missouri & next in Indiana. This is a nationwide effort to assure a compliant House of Reps that delegates as much of its authority as possible to the self-described “clever genius.”
Trump schemes to redraw and quarter Austin, betting that crooked lines, not honest votes, will seal his grip on power. My video statement on Trump’s gerrymandered congressional map.
For now, my sole focus is on defeating this Trump-imposed gerrymandering, which relies on crooked lines instead of honest votes. The only ‘What if’ that matters is ‘What if this crooked scheme is approved to give Trump a rubber stamp to do whatever he pleases.’
For years, Republicans have failed in their attempts to use redistricting to get rid of me. If we continue working together, they will fail again. If Trump and his cowardly Republican accomplices get away with rigging Texas, voters in states across America will be at risk.
Trump is taking a hatchet to chop up Austin and our state with the sole objective of maintaining his one-man rule. This is designed to eliminate accessibility, accountability, and a strong voice for our shared values.
On this 60th anniversary, please share why #MedicaidMatters and #MedicareMatters. We must recommit to assuring every American fulfills their human right to health care. (4/4)
Republicans recently enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in history, as well as additional cuts to Medicare. With 15 million Americans on the brink of losing health care, we cannot sit back idly. (3/4)
I continue to work to strengthen our system by adding more benefits like dental, vision, and hearing care, and ending coverage gaps created by extremist Republicans who refuse to expand coverage in a handful of states like Texas. (2/4)
For 60 years, Medicare and Medicaid have provided access to a doctor and medications for millions of Americans in times of disability, retirement, and financial need. These programs are lifelines to both health and economic security. (1/4)
Insightful commentary from UT professor Dr. Heather Houser on what can offer genuine help to families through health care, child care, paid leave, and more. Moms certainly deserve medals, but what they need is comprehensive health care and support.
To stay in power, unimpeded from checks and balances, Trump is determined to maintain his stranglehold on the US House. If successful in gerrymandering 5 Texas Democrats to get him 5 compliant GOP, Trump will move on to other states to cement his domination.
Before the Austin City Council passed a resolution offered by Mayor Pro Tem Fuentes to urge FAA to provide more air traffic controllers for our airport, I spoke about efforts to keep our skies safe. With less than half of the recommended certified controllers at our tower, we need immediate action.
This is a plane that will be in service for not more than 3 years before it is transferred to the Trump Library. Americans shouldn’t foot the bill for Trump’s vanity project, particularly one so ethically bankrupt and careless with our national security.
Trump promised to bring prices down, but his steep tariff taxes are raising costs for American families across the board. We are paying higher prices for groceries at the supermarket, baby supplies at the big box retailer and now toys for the upcoming holiday season.
