My heart goes out to the victims of this morning’s attack in New Orleans and I’m praying for the survivors. The reports about the attacker’s ties to Texas are disturbing and I will be asking for a full briefing to make sure that our communities are safe from any further violence.

Jimmy Carter was a peacemaker, a devoted humanitarian, and a lifelong voice for justice and human rights across the world. In San Antonio, we will remember his legacy of service and his commitment to a brighter future for every American. May he and Rosalynn Carter rest in peace.

What a conversation: a name you hear all over NPR - Anas Baba - our reporter living in Gaza, on the last year. He’s lost nearly half his body weight in the last year, surviving daily strikes, to be record stories for NPR. www.npr.org/2024/12/29/n...
Congratulations to Neha Hariharaprasa on winning my 2024 Congressional App Challenge! Neha, a freshman at Brandeis HS, combined her experience growing up with eczema and her interest in coding to create an app to make life easier for those who live with the condition. Thanks to all who participated!

Another provision not getting much attention that Republicans cut from the funding bill at the direction of the wealthiest man in the world — the SUPPORT Act, bipartisan legislation key to fighting the opioid epidemic. thehill.com/policy/healt...
This week, my office joined VIA and the FTA to announce a $268 million grant we secured to support the VIA Green Line project – the first rapid transit corridor in our region! This is one of the biggest public transit grants for our region and I was proud to make the case for the funding.

I can’t believe almost 200 years after a Mexican woman died in Texas, I’m the journalist who got to investigate her story. This started with a tip I got about potential grave desecration of a historic unkept Mexican cemetery in Comal County, north of San Antonio. thebarbedwire.com/2024/12/11/w...

A border wall investigation from @texastribune.org: At least 1/3 of TX landowners approached by the state have refused to let it be built on their properties. That’s forced the state to build on ranches in the middle of no where, or erect sections full of gaps. apps.texastribune.org/features/202...
These new films tell complex and sometimes difficult stories – showing Latinos as heroes and villains, hard-working immigrants and goofballs, space travelers, and so much more. Together, they show the talent and creativity that Latinos bring to the screen. 4/
For 2024, I’m thrilled that FOUR of our nominations — Mi Familia (1995), American Me (1992), Up in Smoke (1978), & Spy Kids (2001). I’m also excited that the National Film Preservation Board selected Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), which features the iconic Latino actor Ricardo Montalbán. 3/
For the last four years, my office has submitted annual nomination lists of great Latino movies that should be preserved for generations to come. Earlier this year, we got hundreds of great suggestions from movie fans who were excited to share their top films. 2/
Exciting news for movie fans! Today, the Library of Congress announced that FIVE new Latino-led movies have been added to the prestigious National Film Registry. 2024 is a record-breaking year, with the most inductions of Latino and Hispanic-led films in the Registry’s history. 1/
