Genesis is just 19, raising her sister alone after their mom was detained and kidnapped by ICE. Her words moved us all: “Her absence is tearing our family apart.” Genesis’s bravery is beyond what any 19 year old should be called to do. I’m fighting to reunite her family. 💔✊🏾
Nineteen Members of Congress came to Chicago to demand accountability from Trump and ICE. We stand united with our immigrant communities and won’t back down from the fight for justice. Grateful to @jayapal.house.gov for leading this important discussion.
Spent time with our Will County farmers 🌾 Illinois farmers feed our nation — but Trump’s reckless tariffs and bailouts for Argentina are leaving them behind. I’ll keep fighting for fair trade, open markets, and real support for the people who put food on our tables. 🚜💪🏾
💰 Trump found money for Argentina, a ballroom, and even a $230 million payout for himself —but not for families who rely on SNAP to put food on the table. Trump doesn’t care for the 42 million Americans who need SNAP, including nearly 2 million Illinoisans. It’s shameful.
If it meant giving billionaires more tax breaks or big companies favors, Republicans would hurry back to Washington. But when it comes to helping working families & reopening the government, they're nowhere to be found. The #RepublicanShutdown drags on another week.
Thank you to SAFE Illinois for your tireless work to end gun violence. Gun violence is personal to me. I ran for Congress because I was tired of moments of silence instead of action. We’ve made progress with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—but we can’t stop now.
I can think of millions of people who should be President Trump’s priority—Americans who are losing health care, jobs, and food benefits because of his shutdown. Instead, he’s focused on building a $300+ million Mar-a-Lago–style ballroom for himself.
Leavitt: At this moment in time, the ballroom is really the president's main priority.
Republicans want to let ACA premium tax credits expire. This will raise your monthly health costs. This week, my office met with two small business owners in my district who pleaded for affordable care. Their coffee shop workers depend on those credits.
Republicans control the House. Republicans control the Senate. Republicans control the White House. This is their shutdown—one they could have prevented if they worked with Democrats to protect affordable healthcare for millions of Americans.
America’s farmers were already struggling under Trump’s tariffs. Now, he’s importing beef from Argentina, after bailing them out to the tune of $40 billion. Our farmers deserve open, fair markets and real leadership that puts them first.
I heard powerful testimony from Chicago families about the trauma, constitutional violations, and labor abuses caused by President Trump’s unlawful actions and ICE’s Gestapo-style tactics. No community should live in fear. Thank you to all my colleagues who joined us this morning.
No one is above the law. Epstein’s victims and survivors — and the American people — deserve transparency, justice, and accountability Speaker Johnson needs to swear in Rep-elect Grijalva. Then we can vote to release the files.
5,400 people in our district will lose their health coverage because Republicans refuse to extend critical ACA tax credits to lower our monthly payments. @HouseDemocrats.bsky.social and I are fighting to protect affordable healthcare and deliver real solutions for working families.
Today I’m joining @jayapal.house.gov, @chuygarcia.house.gov, @ramirez.house.gov and Rep. Danny Davis to listen to people impacted by Trump’s assault on Chicago. We’re demanding accountability for immigrant families torn apart and lives upended by his unlawful actions. Watch live:
It’s Day 23 of the Republican Shutdown. Families are struggling, paychecks are delayed, and vital programs are stalled. @HouseDemocrats.bsky.social and I are in Washington fighting to reopen the government, protect healthcare, and get relief to the people who need it most.
