The Republican-proposed SNAP cut would be the largest rollback of an anti-hunger program in our nation’s history. It will take food off the table for families and single moms, force rural grocery stores to close and make our farmers poorer. It’s a hard no from me.
She was unlawfully detained for six weeks in an ICE facility in Louisiana, where she suffered intolerable living conditions and multiple intense and worsening asthma attacks. She is a cherished member of our community, and I am glad that she is finally back in Massachusetts.
I am relieved that Rümeysa had been released. But she should have never been abducted off the streets of Somerville, had her visa revoked, or been moved to a detention site more than 1,500 miles away—all in violation of her constitutional rights.
At a time of rising authoritarianism and deepening inequality, the world desperately needs a church that defends the poor, stands up for human rights, & opens its doors to those who’ve long been left out. I pray that Pope Leo will meet this moment with courage, humility, and a commitment to justice.
Pope Leo has consistently stood with people struggling in poverty, those who are victims of repression, the immigrant community, and those who the governments of the world have forgotten—and I hope he will continue to lead with that same spirit of compassion and global solidarity.
Today, history was made. For the first time ever, an American has been chosen to lead the Catholic Church. I join people of all faiths in welcoming Pope Leo XIV and praying for wisdom, strength, and moral clarity as he begins his papacy.
We endorse Rep. Cohen, Rep. McGovern & Sen. Whitehouse’s resolution condemning the administration’s assault on the free press, including the defunding of USAGM. These acts threaten free expression at home & embolden authoritarians abroad, endangering all journalists. cohen.house.gov/media-center...
Rümeysa Öztürk and Mahmoud Khalil are political prisoners. They’ve broken no laws and are being detained not for what they’ve done, but for what they dared to say. We went to Louisiana to demand their release.
This is insane. The government is now trying to censor medical journals—MEDICAL JOURNALS!!!—for content that Trump’s little tyrants disagree with. What happened to freedom of speech?? Follow the lead of Harvard and tell them to GET LOST!
Now more than ever we need to fight to protect our planet. Happy Earth Day 🌎 Let’s celebrate not just with words but with action. The clock is ticking and every day needs to be treated as Earth Day. #EarthDay
Happy Patriots’ Day! Today we celebrate the spirit of the Commonwealth—from the heroes of 1775 to the incredible runners taking on the Boston Marathon. Good luck to all participating! Your determination reflects the best of who we are.
This is insane. Trump’s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has now leaked classified military plans TWICE—this time through a unsecured Signal chat on a personal device to friends and family. He's a walking national security disaster and needs to resign or be fired.
What a beautiful Monday morning to grab coffee with seniors and members of the community at MOTW Coffee & Pastries in Shrewsbury!  I heard loud and clear their concern about the threats to programs that help seniors age with dignity. I’ll never stop fighting to protect Medicare & Social Security.
