Trump has made no effort to disguise the fact that the arrests of academics like Suri and Mahmoud Khalil are intended to have a chilling effect and discourage the free expression of political views which Trump dislikes.

The ‘justification’ given for these violations of Mr. Suri’s right to due process is another violation of the Constitution: a blatant attack on the First Amendment. Mr. Suri and his family are unfortunately the latest victim of President Trump’s assault on the freedom of speech.
Mr. Suri, here legally and not accused of a crime, was surrounded outside the Northern Virginia home where he lives with his wife –a US citizen– and their children, arrested by masked authorities without explanation, disappeared, imprisoned, denied access to counsel, and had his student visa revoked
Earlier this week my constituent, Badar Khan Suri, a Georgetown postdoctoral fellow, was detained outside his Rosslyn home.
He remains in detention despite not being accused of a crime, a clear violation of his constitutional rights. He must be released.

Netanyahu's decision to reignite the war in Gaza is a tragedy in the making.
My full statement:
Judge Chuang’s decision emphasizes what we have been saying: Elon Musk and DOGE’s efforts to dismantle USAID are illegal, unconstitutional, and corrupt. It’s an authoritarian assault on a federal agency established and funded by Congress.
NEW: A federal judge rebuked Elon Musk and DOGE for likely violating the constitution in their race to dismantle USAID.

If you have to pick a lock to get in somewhere something fishy might be going on. When I arrived at USIP two nights ago – DOGE had done just that. Unlawfully removing private nonprofit workers from their jobs and weaponizing law enforcement to do it.
Trump and DOGE overstepped executive authority by using force to break into USIP. Infringing on the rights of private nonprofits is another way this administration is undermining democracy and taking away independence from organizations simply trying to do their jobs.

Thousands of IRS workers were fired under the false pretext of "performance failures," despite never having undergone such reviews. IRS’ own lawyers said this could constitute fraud.
Yet another illegal act designed to benefit Trump, Musk, and their wealthy tax evading friends.
SCOOP: Before the IRS fired nearly 7,000 probationary employees, a senior lawyer raised the alarm that:
- the terminations contained "false" information
- they amounted to a "fraud" on the US judicial system

As President Trump continues to falsely claim his administration won’t touch Social Security, leaked documents reveal plans to further strain operations that could lead to longer call wait times and delayed processing of Social Security benefits.
Medicaid gives 80 million Americans the ability to access care they desperately need, like my constituents Mary Lee Ruby and Michael Thomas.
Donald Trump and Republicans want to force people like Mary Lee and Michael off Medicaid to give billionaires tax cuts.

“Without Medicaid, I could die.”
Medicaid is a lifeline. It's not a shortcut for Republicans to give handouts to billionaires. whyy.org/articles/del...

Medicaid is America's single largest health care provider.
Republicans are plotting to steal care from 80 million Americans — all to enrich their billionaire donors.
Today, Democrats are hosting a nationwide Day of Action to fight back.

I was at USIP tonight to conduct congressional oversight over DOGE’s break in. I spoke with Acting President & CEO Moose. USIP is an independent, non-profit entity and I will work to stop DOGE’s illegal power grab.

Arlington National Cemetery is a sacred place of honor and respect for those who have served our nation. This censorship from the Trump administration does not erase or diminish the service and sacrifices of Black, Hispanic, and women veterans who fought for our freedoms.

Yet another scary example of this administration's addiction to lawlessness.
EXCLUSIVE: The White House says it ignored a court order to turn around 2 planeloads of accused Venezuelan gang members because the flights were over international waters and therefore the ruling didn't apply
This headed to the Supreme Court Court

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
