Frances Perkins was a trailblazer who (with some help from my grandmother) advised FDR on shaping the New Deal, including Social Security, the minimum wage, and so much more. Love to see the new national monument honoring Secretary Perkins’ legacy!

That is how it's supposed to be: the peaceful transfer of power.
Vice President Kamala Harris set the example. She didn't lie, or try to overturn the outcome, or incite violence; she did her job and presided over certification.
That is what putting our country first looks like.
Four years ago insurrectionists incited by Donald Trump attacked the seat of American democracy in an attempt to overturn an election.
Many seek to erase this event from history, but they will fail. We honor the officers who protected the Capitol, some of whom are no longer with us.
Casting my first vote of the 119th Congress, and as many more as it takes, for @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social for Speaker!
Excellent news: the $2,000 yearly cap on Medicare prescription drug costs just kicked in!
This is one of many cost-saving measures enacted by Democrats in the Inflation Reduction Act -- every Republican in Congress voted against it.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!
Jimmy Carter lived a life of kindness, compassion, and decency.
He never forgot his roots as a Navy veteran and peanut farmer, never stopped fighting racism and oppression, and never stopped helping others or working to make the world a better place.
A great human being.
Chag Urim Sameach! Happy first night of Hanukkah to all celebrating the festival of lights.
From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!
Seven years ago, President Donald Trump's TCJA provided massive tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. Extending these tax cuts would add nearly $4 trillion to the deficit over the next 10 years, with hundreds of billions more in interest costs.
It would be a disaster.

Republicans would rather cut taxes for billionaire donors than fund research for children with cancer.
That is why our country is on the brink of a government shutdown that will crash the economy, hurt working class Americans and likely be the longest in history.
Welcome back to the MAGA swamp.

The world's richest man managed to take $190 million away from a *child cancer research center* with his posts yesterday. Funding now stripped in the new bill.
Another provision not getting much attention that Republicans cut from the funding bill at the direction of the wealthiest man in the world — the SUPPORT Act, bipartisan legislation key to fighting the opioid epidemic.

At Elon Musk's demand, Republicans changed the funding bill.
Who wins in the new bill? Drug middle men, China, and cancer.
And especially Elon Musk's business:
For years I have urged my colleagues for years to permanently eliminate the debt ceiling, which has never reduced our national debt.
I am a cosponsor of @repbrendanboyle.bsky.social’s bill to do it.
Let’s abolish the debt limit for good.
The richest man in the world says he wants to shut down the government, forcing millions of American workers - including our troops - to go without pay through the holidays.
Republicans are following his orders. This is insane.
The Constitution empowers Congress, not the president, to determine trade policy.
Misusing tariffs can wreak havoc on our economy and raise costs for Americans.
My opening remarks in today’s @jecdems.bsky.social hearing on president-elect Trump’s vow to implement massive tariff increases:
Huge news here!
Bringing clean, safe fusion energy to the grid is a longstanding dream that could dramatically boost standards of living in America and around the world.
I am so proud that Virginia will help lead the way towards realizing that dream!

Heartbroken over today’s tragic school shooting in Madison. The loss of life is devastating, and my heart are with those who survived, their loved ones, and everyone forever impacted by this senseless violence.
Our children deserve to be safe in school.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
