"Essential" to Trump: ✅Building his $200 million golden ballroom ✅$20 BILLION bailout to his foreign right-wing crony "Non-essential" to Trump: ❌Stopping health insurance costs from doubling for 24 million Americans ❌Paying our troops, TSA workers, air traffic controllers & others during a shutdown
While our troops, TSA officers and others go without pay and federal services come to a halt, Trump made sure that Argentina could get its $20 billion bailout. He designated a bailout for his foreign right-wing crony as “essential” - unlike services to Americans.
While our military and civilian employees don’t get paid during a government shutdown, the President and Members of Congress will still receive theirs. I will be refusing my own pay until the end of this Republican-created shutdown.
Without further action from Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans, the federal government will shut down tonight at midnight. I know many Philadelphians are concerned about what a government shutdown means for them. For more information, visit my website:
Trump & congressional Republicans want us to trust them? Their record: ✅The House GOP has blocked DC from spending its OWN money for over 6 months ✅Previous shutdowns were caused by the GOP ✅Trump admin is already doing shutdowns through illegal firings & refusing to spend funding required by law
A GOP shutdown will not only put off a vote on releasing the Epstein files– it also delays the monthly jobs report. What else does the Trump administration have to hide from the American people?
NEW: House Dem Whip Clark sends Speaker Johnson a letter railing against the cancellation of votes today & tmrw. Says the resultant delay in Adelita Grijalva's swearing in "calls into question if the motive behind the delay is to further avoid the release of the Epstein files."
Wondering why there may be a shutdown? It may take some time for Trump to grasp the need for urgent action on health care. However, House Democrats are committed to pushing for a fix to the looming health-insurance cost spike and the $32 BILLION hit to hospitals & other care providers.
1️⃣ day until a government shutdown.
This isn't a game or a joke. As Victoria, a cancer survivor who relies on ACA tax credits, put it: “I don’t feel like anybody should be put in the position of choosing whether you can keep yourself alive or not because of stupid finances and insurance.”
If ACA tax credits are not renewed, next year health care costs will skyrocket for over 24 million Americans - AND hospitals & other providers will lose over $32 BILLION. This is a preventable crisis- but right now Trump and congressional Republicans are refusing to act.
As Trump & the Freedom Caucus steer the nation toward a government shutdown, health insurers are setting rates for next year NOW - millions of Americans can’t wait to find out if the Republicans, who have total control of Washington, will extend the tax credits that make their coverage affordable.
It’s true ACA funding expires on the last day of 2025. But this isn’t an on/off switch you can play with in late December. Insurers are filing premiums in the coming weeks, open enrollment begins Nov 1 and any action after that gets messy (at best). MORE: www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...
