Wondering why there may be a shutdown? It may take some time for Trump to grasp the need for urgent action on health care.
However, House Democrats are committed to pushing for a fix to the looming health-insurance cost spike and the $32 BILLION hit to hospitals & other care providers.

If you’re facing higher premiums or at risk of losing your health care coverage, I want to hear from you! You can comment below or share your story with my office here:
1️⃣ day until a government shutdown.
This isn't a game or a joke. As Victoria, a cancer survivor who relies on ACA tax credits, put it: “I don’t feel like anybody should be put in the position of choosing whether you can keep yourself alive or not because of stupid finances and insurance.”
If ACA tax credits are not renewed, next year health care costs will skyrocket for over 24 million Americans - AND hospitals & other providers will lose over $32 BILLION.
This is a preventable crisis- but right now Trump and congressional Republicans are refusing to act.
As Trump & the Freedom Caucus steer the nation toward a government shutdown, health insurers are setting rates for next year NOW - millions of Americans can’t wait to find out if the Republicans, who have total control of Washington, will extend the tax credits that make their coverage affordable.
It’s true ACA funding expires on the last day of 2025. But this isn’t an on/off switch you can play with in late December. Insurers are filing premiums in the coming weeks, open enrollment begins Nov 1 and any action after that gets messy (at best).

As Chiquita Brooks-LaSure said in the Inquirer: "it’s important to remember that behind all of [these numbers] are real people with lives and families, hopes and fears.”
2⃣ days until a government shutdown.
After gutting Medicaid funding earlier this year, Trump and congressional Republicans are going to let prices skyrocket for the millions of hardworking Americans who get health care coverage through the ACA marketplace- Pennie here in PA.
3⃣ days until a federal government shutdown.
Donald Trump is president.
Republicans control the House and the Senate.
Once again, they are shutting themselves down. As Leader Jeffries said in 2023- “that’s how much it’s in their DNA.”
There is bipartisan recognition that Congress needs to act NOW to prevent a huge cost spike for health insurance.
But this fix needs to be permanent, not just a “phase out” of these critical tax credits - as the GOP lead sponsor described her 1-year extension.
"Go f*** yourself” - that's the Trump administration/GOP response to preventing a huge cost spike in 24 million Americans' health coverage and keeping the government open to serve the people. You deserve better.
ATTN #Philly: Starting this Tuesday, Sept. 30, the federal government will stop issuing paper checks for most payments!

A few months ago, President Trump said he would cut drug prices by over 1000%, but now he’s doubling them through reckless tariffs. So which is it?
4️⃣ days until a federal government shutdown.
Without extending ACA tax credits this fall, next year 150,000 Pennsylvanians could be priced out of their health insurance coverage.
@housedemocrats.bsky.social want to protect health care for hard-working Americans. Why don’t congressional Republicans?
This week, I joined @repsummerlee.bsky.social and the PA Democratic delegation in calling on the EPA to preserve critical climate protections.
This latest move by the Trump administration only leaves our communities more vulnerable to climate change's increasingly damaging health & economic impact.
A daily reminder that Republicans control the White House, House, and Senate.
A federal government shutdown will be a manufactured crisis of the GOP’s own doing. Period.
✅For Trump ally in Argentina: $20 BILLION bailout
🤦🏿♂️For you: higher prices on coffee, beef, bananas & more - AND a 70% spike in health care costs due to Trump and congressional GOP inaction
What ever happened to putting “America first”?
5️⃣ days until a federal government shutdown. Because of Republican inaction, in #PA03, a 60-year-old couple making $82,800 a year could see their health insurance costs increase by $11,485 a year- a $183% increase!
Find out how this GOP price spike could impact you here:
@housedemocrats.bsky.social are ready to negotiate a bipartisan deal to lower costs and keep the government open. Why won't the GOP come to the table?
If Trump and congressional Republicans refuse to extend ACA tax credits, 29,000 people in #PA03 will see their health care costs skyrocket. And insurers are setting rates NOW.
