ICYMI: I joined @abc13houstontexas.bsky.social's This Week in Texas with Tom Abrahams to discuss what's at stake in this moment for Americans' health care.
Arguing that the contingency plan in place for this very kind of emergency isn't available is nonsensical.
Meanwhile, the House remains out of session for the fourth week and Americans are about to go hungry.
4. All of us must speak up and speak out against these secret police tactics that make our communities less safe, not more.
3. I have co-sponsored legislation that requires clear identification from ICE and forbids face masks/concealment (the No Secret Police Act, HR 4176), but we must do more. In Congress and in our communities.
2. These practices need to stop. Now. They are hurting people in our community, and across the country.
1. Don't stop at this headline: read it and read the whole story. Do not look away. This is happening in our community. In our district, #TX07. It is unacceptable.
Unidentified men in unmarked vehicles—later claiming to be ICE—chased down, assaulted, and detained a parent taking his son to school.
Immigrants contribute to our country in every way. They are health care workers, farmworkers, engineers, scientists, teachers, and more.
This #NationalImmigrantsDay, let's all recommit to fighting for an immigration system rooted in fairness and compassion—not fear and discrimination.

Meet James, an Army veteran and current federal worker.
He and millions of veterans around the country rely on the VA to receive health care.
Yet, Trump and Republicans want to cut funding for VA services while they spend $40B on Argentina and $300M on a luxury ballroom.
I'm thinking today of the victims of the shooting at the #TreeOfLife synagogue.
As we mark seven years since this tragedy, let us recommit ourselves to #EndGunViolence and root out the antisemitism which led to this heartbreaking attack. www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/201...
📺 Your Sunday stream: I was on @abc13houstontexas.bsky.social 's This Week in Texas with Tom Abrahams to discuss the impact the Trump shutdown is having on our community and our country.

Texas recently announced that it may not have federal funds for food assistance. But we know that there is a $5 billion contingency fund for this very purpose. I joined my colleagues in calling on USDA Sec. Brooke Rollins to release these funds and help Americans put food on the table in November.
Whether we're talking about the government shutdown that asks employees who inspect imports to work without pay, or we're looking at tariffs that create instability, President Trump's policies are hurting Houston's economy.

Trump is again trying to make it more difficult for Americans to access the benefits they rely on every day. I'm glad to join @wassermanschultz.house.gov and @repricklarsen.bsky.social in fighting Trump's attempt to keep elderly Americans from accessing their hard-earned Social Security benefits.
Reminder to student coders: submissions for the Congressional App Challenge are due in less than one week! I'm looking forward to seeing this year's submissions.

15 million people could be kicked off health care, thousands of federal workers are working without pay, and working-class folks are at risk of losing critical food assistance.
But the ballroom is the President's top priority.
President Trump and Republicans' cuts to Medicaid and failure to extend the ACA's tax credits will reduce the quality and availability of health care services in #TX07 and across the country. I was glad to tour HCA Houston West to learn more about what these changes will mean here in Houston.
Throughout the shutdown, the Trump administration has illegally and indiscriminately fired federal employees—including workers at the Department of Education dedicated to serving students with disabilities and their families. I joined my colleagues to oppose these terminations.
President Trump and Republicans are reducing Texans' access to health care both directly (by slashing Medicaid and letting Affordable Care Act tax credits expire) and indirectly (by cutting the program dedicated to helping Americans sign up for insurance). Read more here ⬇️
This October, we recognize the contributions—from serving in the armed forces to fighting for labor rights—that Filipino Americans have made that have shaped our country's history and culture. Happy Filipino American History Month!

No state is safe from skyrocketing health care premiums.
A 60-year-old couple will pay an average of $1,530 more every month next year—and in some states, that number is even higher.

Alignment stats consider only votes where a clear yes/no majority existed for the legislator's party. Cross-party marks divergence where the vote matched the opposite party majority. ↔ indicates cross-party divergence.
