While the Trump Administration wants to make it harder for our kids to learn and grow, I’m standing shoulder to should with our parents and students as we fight for all the resources our children need to thrive.
Back-to-school should be about learning, not worrying about how to pay for the basics. I’ll keep fighting to protect family budgets and keep school affordable for every child.
5/ These aren’t taxes on other countries — they’re taxes on American families. Every extra dollar spent on tariffs is a dollar not going toward classrooms, healthy food, or extracurriculars.
4/ And it’s not just supplies — clothing 👕, shoes 👟, and even classroom technology 💻 are being hit. Clothing & shoes face tariffs over 25%, adding $1.9 billion in costs. The new 100% tariff on computer chips could soon drive up prices for laptops and Chromebooks.
🧵Here’s how Trump’s tariffs are a tax on families sending kids to school. Today, on the first day of school, I stood with parents and educators to call out tariffs tripled on supplies🎒—from backpacks & sneakers👟 to Chromebooks💻—& to push bipartisan legislation to end them.
Visited Project Angel Food’s new campus site today — an expansion that will mean 1.5M+ meals a year for Angelenos in need. Trump has already slashed $500K+ in federal support and is pushing deeper cuts that could take away 600K+ meals a year from those who need them most.
The ICE Director thinks it is ok for his agents to act like we live in a police state. Masked & unidentifiable agents throwing residents into unmarked cars is not how democracies work. Without the ability to hold agents of the government accountable, we cannot be worthy of the public’s trust.
Thankful for law enforcement, public safety personnel, and fellow neighbors for standing shoulder to shoulder in our never-ending efforts to make California an even greater place to live.
It was great to join West Hollywood’s National Night Out festivities. When we come together as a community, we’re able to stand up for one another and keep each other safe.
Great to speak with so many of you at Burbank’s National Night Out celebration. Community conversations like these are essential for public safety, and from what I’ve seen in Burbank, there are countless neighbors willing to look out for one another!
Together, we’ll keep working to make our communities safer by building trust and celebrating our incredible City and dedicated local law enforcement and public safety personnel.
Grateful to all the friends and neighbors who made it to Glendale’s National Night Out tonight, especially the reservists of the Glendale Police Department, who volunteer their time to serve our community.
When the Olympics & Paralympics come to town in 2028, our transit systems need to be ready to move all those spectators and athletes, and I’m proud to continue my work in securing federal investments for our public transit.
It was a pleasure to join representatives from Foothill Transit and Rose Bowl Stadium to tour one of the Transit system’s new zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell-powered buses and the grounds of the beautiful Rose Bowl.
