Anthropic basically has an advantage from the mirror situation: it has aggressive limits on its free tier so that it can afford to offer expensive models, which means a) people generally don't get dumb results and b) people only go there if they already know they want an AI answer.
The rationale seems to be, "if we don't put AI in our search, we'll lose use to AI-powered search engines; we can't afford to run a full-fat Gemini query for every single search, though, so we'll offer cheaper and faster responses." But the end result is a wide perception that Google's AI is bad
continue to think that Google, which arguably has the best AI models in the market, deliberately filling its search results with responses from with the dumbest models it makes is one of the worst strategic decisions in the sector so far
