This week, Republicans are trying to rip Medicaid and SNAP from millions—all to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. I've called on my GOP colleagues to reverse course, worked to force a vote to protect Medicaid and SNAP, and stood with community leaders in San Diego to speak out. We won't back down.
This week, SCOTUS will hear arguments on Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship. If you're born on U.S. soil, you're a U.S. citizen. I joined my colleagues in filing a Supreme Court amicus brief to defend birthright citizenship and our Constitution.
While Republicans spent the weekend unveiling their plan to gut Medicaid and kick millions off their health care, Trump was busy trying to get a $400 million luxury jet from a foreign government. The cruelty and corruption is off the charts. Congress must investigate NOW.
Our San Diego County nonprofits have been hit hard by the Trump Admin. The idea that Trump can take funds that have already been lawfully appropriated is absolutely wrong. Good to meet with nonprofit leaders and allies to talk about how we can help support their important work in our communities.
I signed onto a discharge petition that would force a vote on legislation to protect Medicaid. We just need a handful of Republicans to pass it. Republicans say their budget doesn't cut health care for millions. If that's true, they should have no issues joining us.
Good. Rumeysa has committed no crime that the government can point to. She was detained as part of Trump's ongoing attack on immigrants and must be freed immediately.
BREAKING: A federal court ruled that our client Rümeysa Öztürk must be released on bail immediately. She will return home to New England as her case proceeds.
This week, I pushed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for answers as Trump continues to crash our economy. Mass firings, tariff chaos, and a budget that explodes the debt (confirmed by Bessent!) to give tax cuts to the 1%—it’s all part of the same story. They're only looking out for billionaires.
Habemus Papam! Today we welcome His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the first Pope from the United States, and pray for him as he assumes his sacred responsibility. May his voice guide us toward a more compassionate, just, and peaceful world.
New nonpartisan CBO report confirms: Republicans' budget proposal will kick millions off their health care – all to give billionaires a tax break. I signed a discharge petition to force a vote to protect Medicaid. We just need a few Republicans to join us. This is their chance to stand up.
Trump is deporting kids who are U.S. citizens. One of the kids is four-years-old and has Stage 4 cancer. No due process or legal access, NO MEDICAL CARE for the child, and no humanity. The lawlessness and cruelty of this Administration is on full display yet again.
The Constitution guarantees due process and protections for EVERYONE in our country, not just citizens. Either we all have rights — or no one does. As Trump continues to attack immigrants and the rule of law, it's on all of us to speak out. Read my thoughts here.
Now more than ever, Cinco de Mayo serves as a reminder that our nation is made stronger by our diverse cultures and communities. Proud to lead a resolution to commemorate Cinco de Mayo alongside @repespaillat.bsky.social @sylviagarcia.house.gov, and @repemilyrandall.bsky.social.
¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate Mexico’s fight for independence and freedom at the Battle of Puebla and the rich heritage and countless contributions of Mexican-Americans.
A federal judge BLOCKED Trump’s illegal use of the Alien Enemies Act. Due process matters, and this ruling is critical to ensuring the rule of law — for everyone — is followed by this Administration.
In a first-of-its-kind ruling, a Trump-appointed judge says the president's use of the Alien Enemies Act to speed deportations is unlawful.
